Look like sparrow hawks, aka kestrels. Beautiful pic. We have nesting kestrels on our acreage and they are rather noisy

Thank you
They’re adult common kestrels, male left, female right

This one is an adolescent male:

The former RAF Ingham north of Lincoln was the base of Polish bomber squadrons during WW2. After the war it provided the accomodation for some of the 250,000+ Poles who were given British citizenship because they could not safely live under Russian control in Poland. Today a collection of wartime buildings opened as a memorial to these men.

Never seen an authentic Caterpillar club badge before. Awarded to someone who saved their life by using an Irvin parachute.

I used to live in an apartment on the NE side of Munich and rode my bike by camp often. My girlfriend grew up in a neighboring village. The residents had/have a saying that birds don’t live or fly near the camp memorial. I can’t say that I ever noticed them as I rode by, nor when we visited it. One can’t help but feel spirits in that place no matter how pragmatic.

I had heard this about the birds and always assumed it to be a tall story. I do not remember seeing or hearing a bird at Dachau, Terezin (Thierienstadt) or Auschwitz.

Short ride to finish off the weekend. Crazy how green everything still is compared to the last ~5 years

I see you rode 30 kms in 58 minutes Derbysieger

I used to run but not able to due to my knees so I picked up bike riding. My run is 12 kms which I can do in 34 minutes, and I’m pushing hard!

If you don’t mind me asking, are you pushing yourself hard or just cruising? I’m riding a cheap mountain bike on asphalt with elevation change of only about 200 feet. I assume hohenmeter means elevation?

Just wondering if you are a good athlete, have a nice road bike, perhaps electric? lol j/k

I was pushing pretty hard tbh, cruising around 35km/h. A few traffic lights at construction sites that I wasn’t aware of brought my average down by about 2km/h.
I spend about 30min at my heart rate threshold, went hard into the red for the single climb which is a 40m hill at 4% average gradient (averaged 30km/h up the climb) and then let it roll at around 27-30km/h for the last two kilometres in HR zone 2. I am not as good in shape as I used to be three years ago where I could keep this pace for hours on end. I once did 120km in 3h20min solo which ATM I am definitely not capable of but I hope to get back there soon.

Edit: Still on my old steel commuter:

Ah, yes. I have a few traffic lights along my route as well. Perhaps one of my issues is my age, early sixties, with an underlying health condition. During a recent ride I was puffing up a mild incline, when this young lady passed me, seeming to be putting in little effort. I was WTH! I rationalized this by convincing myself it must have been an electric bike. lol
My average cruising speed is around 20 km/hr so quite a bit slower, but my bike type may contribute to this.

I wouldn’t focus on speed too much, yes the bike does play a huge role but as long as you have fun and don’t overdo it you’re doing it right.

And btw I am in my mid thirties and ride about 300km per week. I used to do proper intervals, endurance training etc. but over the last years I have only been cruising at easy paces for the most part. I am still pretty quick, endurance for long rides is there but I can’t go 35km/h all day long anymore but once I start doing longer rides again more often I am pretty sure that I can do even better than I used to do.

Yes, I recently stopped tracking my rides as I found I was too focused on the numbers, taking some of the fun out of it.

Wow, that’s impressive, 300 km a week.

Yeah if it takes the fun out of it don’t track.

I am a huge sucker for stats and being able to keep track of everything though. Helps me keeping up with maintenance as well.

I have taken the decision to commute by bike years ago. Work didn’t leave me with a lot of time for workouts, the commute has terrible traffic which means I am not much slower on a bike which made the decision easy. I don’t even have a car so I do everything by bike, hence ~300km per week.

That is very close to the area where Open Heath is taking place at Kallemærsk hede.

Åben hede is the the yearly demonstration of the newest Danish Army equipment and also has livefire with older military vehicles. It is the only place in the world, where civilians get to be as close to fireing vehicles.

It was to be held in June, but was cancelled because the firerisks from the dry spell we had before.

Instead it is being held 17 September 2023 with the exhibitions starting at 10:00 and ending at 16:00

Commute home this evening

Edit: @bisher despite the similar average speed this was significantly less effort than my ride yesterday.

Few points: almost no stopping at traffic lights and road junctions - I was cruising at a pretty constant 31-33km/h vs 34-36km/h with lots of deceleration and acceleration and a few 1-2min efforts at 40km/h, I had a slight tailwind for about 3/4th of the ride - whereas yesterday was a loop so I had roughly equal parts tailwind headwind and wind from the side.
