Anyone remember these
I should watch that movie again. Way back in high school I volunteered for some of the restoration work on the original Belle, mainly stripping paint off small parts, but also remember a group of us removing one of the wing tanks. Pretty sure I jammed one of the deactivated 50cals too
“Jammed one of the .50’s on the Memphis Belle…” has to be a great icebreaker.
Took me absolutely ages to get the camera to more or less focus on this beasty. We had triple glazing fitted earlier this year and we watched this spin it’s web on the outside. Of course, the camera insisted on focussing on the first pane (or the second?) so it took a lot of patience to get it pretty much right. I had a better one for size on the picture, but slightly out of focus, but nevermind, this one will do.
Using my decidedly old and amateur Canon SX160 IS
Did you try that headset?? curios because a consumer version is due to launch soon.
My method for macro photography of living insects and spiders is as follows:
- I set my lens to manual focus and dial in its minimum focus distance (I have the RF 100mm F2.8 Macro IS USM but you can do this technique with any lens).
- I set the camera to its maximum burst speed (20fps in my case but I have used this technique with less capable cameras as well), shutter to at least 1/400s, better 1/1000s if you have enough light, and aperture to F8 or higher, ISO as needed (can be as high as ISO 8000)
- Now I move the camera close to the subject so that it is just out of focus.
- shoot a burst of pictures while slowly but steadily moving the camera towards the subject.
With a little practice you can get some really cool results. Having bright lights at hand will help of course.
Been a while since I heard something new about that. You got anything?
Thanks for the info - this camera doesn’t have a huge amount of options, being a “Powershot” type rather than a DSLR and as far as I’m aware there is only autofocus.
I do have the manual, but have only read the bits i need to get by, so I can check and see if there’s anything about the settings you mention - it does have some manual possibilities and I used some of those to get the photo I posted. Auto just wouldn’t work at all due to that triple glazing.
It does have a good zoom (x16) built in, though I found that close objects are best left at default, otherwise they are very hard to get in focus, even using the macro function. For the photo I posted I actually had the camera lens touching the inside pane of glass - I’m surprised the spider didn’t react at all, must have at least noticed the change in light.
Well.Razbam are using The VRgineers XTAL Pro Headset VRgineers are heavily involved in making The VR1 for Somnium Space.Hoping for news on this by end of the month
Just for the 10 minutes they let me fly it.
It was light and comfy, but those were the only two points I enjoyed about it. The IPD was slightly off so I felt a bit like a chameleon due to my narrow IPD. I asked about adjusting it but they said it was automatic. The FOV felt very narrow to me, almost like looking through binoculars. I don’t know if that was an issue with the headset or their software settings. I can’t speak much to the image quality since they had DCS graphics set super low with MSAA and SSAA off.
Ah, that’s what you meant.
I thought you were talking about this.
But that seems to have fizzled out, or became the collaboration with Somnium?
I hadn’t seen this before. Thanks for info.
edit Apologies for getting O.T
I was in Stuttgart last night, the first concert I went to in more than a decade. But those guys were worth it.
