Breathtaking!
Some absolutely stunning shots there!
f-f-f-freezing in the Peak District…
with fingers so numb I could hardly turn the key let alone take a photo - and that despite winter gloves, handguards and heated grips.
Here’s a couple more - before setting off, at the rally on Anglesey (Wales NW coast) and just starting home again - the sunshine beaming through the clouds down the sides of the Snowdonia mountains there looked really spectacular, so I had to stop for a photo even though I’d only gone a couple of miles.
Orodruin
I wonder what that could be…
I am genuinely impressed with my phone’s abilities to take pictures in low light.
Spent a few weeks in Gorgeous St Augustine Florida recently…other than the beautiful weather and wonderful beaches St Augustine boasts being the oldest city in The United States…with The oldest fortresses also…Castillo de San Marcos over 300 yrs old.
After being burnt down by the British Military and Privateer’s 4 times The Spanish decided to forgo using wood and instead used a material called Coquina a material that was quarried locally. It is able to withstand cannon fire better than concrete and was fire resistant.
If you look closely at the quarried blocks you can see sea shells in the material…kinda cool
The fort has a Amazing history both ruled by the Spanish and then The British during The Revolutionary War…It actually imprisoned 3 signers of The Declaration of Independence.
That is impressive indeed. As you said, coguina are small shells that are native to the Atlantic coast, perhaps other places as well. When the surf subsides, you can dig your hands in the sand and scoop up plenty.
We have so many around here that we named a beer after them. I can’t imagine how many it took to build a fort, perhaps billions!
Well, if we’re talking about “forts” I have an Ace card! The place where they had the check-in for the rally is right next to Conwy Castle - 700 years old. My biggest regret of the trip is that there was nowhere to stop on the side of the road to take a photo of it. Had I realised it was open to the public when I was on my way back, I would have stopped by to have a look inside. Oh well - always next year
Here’s the site and info (it does take a while for the pics to load sometimes):
I was given a parking ticket in Conway, and got off when I appealed. I had bought a valid ticket but there were acres of instructions in the car park in Welsh. The English bit that said no camper vans was tiny and ambiguous.
Haha - yes, I knew I was in Wales when I couldn’t understand the signs and name places any more!
Hat’s off to you. Doing a tour like this during winter, oh my
At least when you’re cycling it’s pretty easy to keep warm but on a bike that’s a little harder I imagine
Late winter is the time to prune the fruit trees (apples and pears). We had some amazing weather for the work.
Cut that one boy! no not too short! yes, there!
Client treated us to warm, freshly baked appelflappen (apple pastries).
Happy crew posing for the pic last week We took delivery of the wood we gathered last summer in Portugal, 15 metric tons of the stuff. Sorting it and making neat piles, stripping the bark off some, lot’s of work. The bark will make very useful material for paths and playgrounds, as acacia bark rots far slower than indiginous species.
That’s Awesome!! Well Done to Your Hard Working Crew!!! One of my favorite Zeppelin Album Cover came to mind while reading your great post
That looks very Bombardier like…
