Where Are You Photos [2023]

20mm an hour…. Wow.

You’re gonna need a bigger brolly.

We were lucky to get enough ‘moderate’ rain to prime the soil before we got the downpour of the past few days.

This will help put my ‘Happy Happy Joy Joy’ in perspective:

Here’s ours in comparison. Jan-Dec averages with a sopping 1565.62mm total for a typical year. :umbrella:

Note: for more 6 months of the year we have >= 1mm of rain.

I’m surprised I’m not rusty.

Yeah but you live in Wales, when doesn’t it rain :stuck_out_tongue:

But I will trade my daily rainfall of <= 1mm of rain for yours anytime!

Holy carp, I am surprised that your sheep haven’t developed gills, webbed feet or something similar yet! (Or have they?)

For comparison: My home town has an average of 776mm per year, and the highest ever recorded value was in 1968, with 1126mm.
The German average is a bit more than 800mm, which we don’t exactly perceive as dry.

  • Shimano Ultegra 8000 with compact chain rings (50-34T) and 11-32 cassette and GRX STIs (they fit my hands much better than my old Ultegra STIs)
  • SON 28 Dynamo
  • B&M IQ-X headlight (need to test it in a bit)
  • B&M Toplight Line Brake Plus
  • Racktime addit
  • 32mm Conti GP 4-Seasons (incredibly comfortable and durable tires!)
  • Shimano XTR PD-9100 pedals

I have now slammed the stem as the handle bar was still a little high for my taste and I need to mount a bell. I hate shouting at people :joy:

I will go for another ride tomorrow and might even flip the stem for a more agressive riding position.

Speaking of New Zealand:

McDonald’s in Taupō has a C-47 that they’ve turned into an upper deck for the restaurant.

It’s a bit worse for wear in parts, but the plaque inside says that it was worked hard in both Australia and NZ for a total airframe hours of 56,282!

They also have seaplane tours from Taupō Lake, but it’s Sunday, raining and with a low overcast so I don’t think they’re working today:

I have fond memories of fishing for trout on the lake. My first, and only, seaplane adventure was also as a boy and a joyflight in a Grumman Goose at Auckland harbour in the mid 70’s.

Is that a Peal Harbor Zeke?? Very Cool

Flipped the stem and put the spacers on top. The bike shop can cut the steering tube next time I’m there:

Yes. As far as I know the movie Pearl Harbor that was released in 2001 was its only movie role. It is also the only movie role listed on its Planes of Fame webpage. It was rebuilt in 1978 which was too late for Tora, Tora, Tora and they used AT-6’s again to represent Zero’s for the movie The Final Countdown.
