That’s awesome stuff Chris, thanks for doing what you do, so that others may live.

Every time you fly you are a hero to someone!

I enjoy the job - I enjoy being part of a process - but all of the praise goes to those that choose to donate their organs, and some have families that must choose to do it under very difficult (unimaginable) circumstances. This was the greatest Valentines Day for a bunch of people - and the worst for one family. And I’m amazed that these surgeons can perform these operations - what an incredible talent and profession.

Compared to ferrying CEOs around (what I used to do nearly 20 years ago) - this job is 100x more fulfilling.

Well, your dogs will be upset when they have to put you back on a leash on May 16th…

Especially given the yellow lab’s astonishing ability to pick out the most attractive (lady) dog owners to go make friends with.

It’s a team-game, but there’s no shame in saying ‘yes I am a little bit of a hero!’

Heck, anyone that goes out to save lives is IMHO. Not everyone has to face the adversities or problems but damn it’s a job worth having!

I can’t even imagine what it would be like to lose a family member on a day like today, but i hope that family is able to take at least a little bit of comfort in knowing that their life could help save others.

Having also done both “missions”, I can concur. It is extremely satisfying to be a part of the organ transplant process. Getting the call at 2am on a dark, cruddy winter’s night somehow seems not so bad when you think about why you are dragging yourself out of bed. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy what I do now. With my current job, I get to see places I never imagined I would go to, and fly airplanes that seemed so far out of reach that I didn’t even contemplate the possibility, but still, I miss my time flying the organ procurement teams (and some air ambulance) in a trusty B200.

There’s something weird about how modern and how old the cockpit looks at the same time!

The first time I got in the airplane after the G1000 conversion, I had to remind myself that it was the exact same aircraft with regards to performance and handling…LOL…the bells and whistles really do cause a moment of pause when you first look at it.

Haha, I can imagine! The SA must be great, although deceiving too!

Guys on the G1000, how does your scan change as compared to a 6 pack? And does training discuss a standard scan for glass as we learned with traditional gauges?

I don’t have enough time on the G1000 at this point to really have drawn a conclusion. I probably have less than 20 hours flying it since most of our time in done in the straight B200 and the Citations. The scan is far more compressed since all of the information is right there, but the rest of the data can actually distract you a bit. When the weather is really, really poor, I tend to revert back to basics and ignore the superfluous data. There are many “declutter” modes that can help with that. If I was flying the G1000 package 100% of the time, I’d bet I’d be pretty good with it…but each time I get back in the plane I have to re-learn something. When I flew it yesterday, we were on an arrival and even though we hadn’t been given any crossing restrictions, I fiddled with the VNAV pages to refamiliarize myself how to set it up. The G1000 is significantly different than the Universal UNS-1 which we use in the other three airplanes. Even the autopilot/yaw damper location is way different.
