Why not? I think this is pretty interesting, truth be told.

As you know, for all its faults…there are few sims with the modding community that allow you to pretty much find what you want and let you be the Walter Mitty in the war of your choosing (fictional or otherwise). I’ve had a blast flying Falklands, Odyssey Dawn, Gulf War, and Vietnam missions…pretty much all things I couldn’t find elsewhere. Sure, it is a medium grade sim, but heck, even dating a girl who is a 6 can be a great time. Did I really make that analogy? I’m blaming it on the Malbec again… LOL…
The biggest strength of SF for years (heck a decade plus) is/was the modability and the community that grew around that. I just don’t know if it’s still there. Sure there are plenty of great planes and theaters released, but are they still accesible these days? Also will there really be any new content?
I’ll put some money towards it, honestly as a bit of nostalgia if nothing else. I do wonder if it will be what we are hoping for though (both the feature set, plane set, and community that once was).
All the mods are still there at combatace, but the community isn’t nearly as active.
Easy to say when you married a 10… ![]()
Just to be clear— we’re not talking about 6 or 10 years of age, right?
It’s about a subjective “grade” for Attractiveness, right??
The first thing I’d do is call it something other than “Strike Fighters 2”
Something like, “Strike Fighters: Remastered” or something.
Agreed…! And I’d try to be more upbeat in my communications. The way it reads now is a pretty hard sell…but I’m hopeful!
I usually read here but not post anything, but I think this time the threat deserves it. Of course Sf2 has it’s flaws, but as BeachAV8R already said it covers periods, theatres, planes and weapons not covered (and very unlikely to be covered in the future), Is the first time in many years TK said anything and try to add something, I will really hate to see this fail, and see DCS as the only sim in development out there.
amen brother!
Hey, see…TK’s campaign got people to come out of hiding…! Success already!
And I agree, this is sort of a positive indicator by TK and after all my wishes for things to move ahead, it is pretty encouraging to see TK take a glance at the PC sim world once again. I know he was probably burnt out on all of us (we are pretty high maintenance) but I’m sure his heart has always been in making the best sim he could in the best way possible. Yes, I know the developer/customer relationship is a two way street, and I know not everyone is a fan of TK. He’s always been pleasant to me though and he’s taken all suggestions and either deflected them (LOL) or just said he wishes he could do it too.
I’ll probably wander over to our friends at Combatace.com and check out what their temperature is on all this. Should be interesting…
…and of course the first thread I click on has this…DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE WE GOOOOOOOOO!
And then the guy that posted those images said this:
“Yup, A-6 is one of favourite planes, maybe someday I’ll do new cockpit for this bird.”
@komemiute is now trying to find his SF2 serial numbers…
A windows 10 patch isn’t gonna do it for me, but if some clever folks (or TK if he wants) can add a little more depth to the avionics of the attack aircraft, and do something about visibility distance for air to air, I’d reinstall in a heart beat.
siiiiiiigh
I actually have the full installation on my external HDD.
I never trust too much recovery of downloading data from serials.
I’ll add that I’d be lying if I said that this thread didn’t make me actually think to just drag/drop my complete installation unto the PC main drive and launch it.
The little voice goes… “juuuust one flight. One liiiiiittle A-6 low level, high speed CCIP drop of 24 snakeeyes… juuuuuust oneeeee!”
If TK makes it happen with VR support then I will buy the $100 package in a heartbeat even though I already own most of the ‘modules’ already. It just strikes me that he really isn’t all that committed to the project and therefore my money stays in my wallet until there is a product to buy.
Of course, I’ll probably blow that $100 on X-Plane 11 airplanes and scenery before very long. ![]()
I wanted to encourage him so I dropped a little. As you say, if he sells it all again as 3.0 with VR support, I’ll lap it up at 50 bucks a pop. Strike fighters 2.0 with some of the mod packs on came pretty darn close to an old EA janes’ title I used to love: TFX. That also had every plane from 1950 to 2030 with some what-ifs and paper planes thrown in.
I also liked the stock SF2 campaigns. They made for a fun game, with earning to buy better machines and ordnance.
Problem is, all them mods are done to Old DX Standards, and since a majority of the authors arent around anymore they wont be updated.
Hmmm…that was not something I had considered actually…
So you think the updates will break the old mods?
