Wow, 16-24Gb of ram for recommended. Makes me feel old. Is that where we are with things now?
I would also say that 16GB is really today’s minimum for simming, but I could be wrong…
16gb has proven more than sufficient for me so far. But I’m also several gens back on the CPU and gpu
So, does anyone have a recommendation for a business jet with decent legs that will work with XP11? If not then I am thinking of dragging the Mad Dog down to the frozen wastelands.
Btw, This is a photo I took in New Zealand last year…
This is a recreation of the same view using stock XP11 scenery. Pretty impressive I think!
Nope…I haven’t had a chance to go through my bizjet inventory to see what is working yet…
That’s pretty awesome actually!
I’d love to see some more comparisons like that to judge how well XP11 models terrain.
Anyone who wants to make a few screenshots?
- The island of Rømø (South-west Denmark)
- Oslofjord (near Moss, Norway)
- The Melibokus, as seen from the west (south of Darmstadt, Germany, 49.724814, 8.634736)
Btw, what content does the demo contain?
I think the demo actually contains all of the aircraft and the high density terrain and airports around the Seattle area. Since I bought the full product right off the bat, I don’t know what the limitations are - typically in the past it was a time limited demo to 10 or 15 minutes and then it removes control of the aircraft. You can restart the sim and you get another time limited demo…but I’m not sure if that is still the case with XP11…
I’ll grab a few…
Here are some quick and dirty shots. Taking off from Sylt and proceeding north toward Romo…not sure how accurate the airfield at Sylt is - it appears to have 3D buildings, so somebody probably placed generic buildings via the WED editor in a prior edition of X-Plane with the default tools and at least made the layout somewhat resemble it…
Proceeding north…
Approaching the south coast of Romo - looks to be depicted in the default landclass as somewhat sandy or something…then giving way to farm type inland… It’s worth mentioning that this is default X-Plane - it would probably look a lot better with AlpilotX’s HD or UHD free mesh…
Departing Rygee I think it was to look southwest toward Oslofjord…the airport doesn’t look very detailed…
According to what I’ve read, there are different types of buildings for the Americas, Europe, Eastern Europe…etc… Not sure how diverse they get, but again, stock stuff that would probably be improved with local custom scenery…
The airport at Darmstadt (EDES) (?) - departing and heading south toward Melibokus. I’m not familiar with the area, so I wagged where it should be based on the river to the west of the mountains there… The X-Trident Tornado is not working fully with XP11 (ordnance is offset and no pilots and other issues…but it looks kinda nice!)…
Pretty area…even in default…
Any-who - hope that helps.
WOW!
Thanks a lot! This is pretty good. Some remarks:
Rømø has a HUGE beach, the widest in Europe. So the big sandy parts, especially in the west and southwest of the island are what I expected (and hoped for). Comparison with FSX: The whole area is green there IIRC.
Here is what it looks like in real life in summer:
The Oslofjord looks a bit less convincing. Still much better than FSX. You can see the woody areas almost touching the jaggy coastline, with the rocky shores.
The Melibokus area is convincing in color and mesh I’d say.
The Odenwald low mountain range it belongs to is a magnificient looking area. It looks much higher than it actually is (Melibokus is the highest mountain there with 517m, nothing compared to the Black Forest Mountains for example), because it towers the - basically flat - Rhine Plain.
The houses look pretty standard from what I can see, but they are OK. In FSX the houses look very… “American”. Without addons specifically made for Germany it is basically impossible to recognize the terrain, everything looks SO different.
EDIT: a shot from the Melibokus area
And if you are unlucky you like to fly in an area that has only parts covered by an addon.
I live near EDSB and France is around the corner (just across the Rhine). I had the Aerosoft VFR Germany South scenery for FSX and it sucked. The scenery itself was…nice by FSX standards, but you could see its edge all the time, stock FSX France has a strange color. Ugly. I hated it.
So if XP11 provides nice stock sceneries, that’s great!
EDIT: Urge to buy… rising.
I just installed the game. Glad I did.
- does recognize my joystick (I can control the aircraft), but only the stick, not the throttle
- won’t let me reconfigure the axes, so the aileron trim is throttle, y-axis is roll, x-axis is pitch. Not good.
- does show me only my pedals in the configuration screen, shows me the axes but won’t let me assign anything to it
- looks really bad and runs like crap nonetheless.
EDIT:
- trackIR not working either.
- tried customizing a bit. Doesn’t do any good. Very strange. I can run even DCS or the Star Citizen alpha just fine, but not X-plane 11…
I think it is safe to say that I am better off waiting.
Three hours later…
One of us!
On Nvidia, try using the Nvidia Control Panel app and marking off ‘Thread Optimization’. If on AMD then XP11 just seems to perform very badly, probably due to the OpenGL drivers.
Well to be honest it was only the demo.
But the controller nightmare kiiinda puts me off.
Sorry to hear it isn’t co-operating for you Aginor. The controller setup worked just fine for me (X55 and CH Pro Pedals). I had to invert the brake pedal axes but apart from that is all went like clockwork.
So, um… what does this mean for KMUD?
I’m not sure yet…! I have to do some re-surveying and figure out if and where I need to move the airport. Glad I didn’t build the approach plates yet…!
Ok I think I’ll stay interested and in the meantime I’ll pester y’all with semi-random x-plane related questions:
I love those small business jets like the Eclipse 550 or the Citation Mustang (HondaJet, PiperJet, Phenom 100 or something along those lines). Fast (350 knots+) and small is the goal. I do like the Citation X size as well but it is almost too big for me, I’d say it is the upper limit. So I guess some of the Learjets also apply, but barely.
Does this work? Any experiences with it in XP-10 or XP-11? Or something comparable in size? Bonus if it is freeware or cheap, and of course coming from DCS I am aiming for maximum possible fidelity.
I wonder whether I should try XP-10 while waiting for 11 to be a bit more polished…
EDIT: And btw: Which site do you go to if you want to know which planes/addons are reported as working in XP-11? EDIT: Checking forums.x-plane.org now.
The Eclipse 550 is included with both XP-10 and 11 as a default plane. Not sure about the fidelity, it looks more of a prototype ish plane.
