You are right Will. I see a shiny new airplane or helicopter and I just have to get it. I’m a lost cause.
Nice plane too.
Wheels
That’s the VSkyLabs version of the Icon A5.
Great shots!
emphasized textWhen I was in Key West in 1985, Tom Sawyer was the mayor and I saw him once. …and now you have that nice bit of totally insignificant trivia stuck in your brains forever…my bad.
Saw one of those next to us in MKC last week…really neat looking and I’m sure it is a blast to fly… I probably don’t want to know how much one costs.
Going to look through some handy cam video of my brother and I jumping out of barley running C182 from Sugarloaf Key at sunset. Very Fandango. There may have been some Rum Runners involved. What happens when you are on a road trip to Key West and have your skydiving rig with you. As we passed through the next to last key, there was a banner on the side of the road announcing Face Your Fears - Skydiving or something similar. Turned in there and found a guy running a tandem jump operation out of the back of a U-Haul truck. Probably the worst looking and sounding Cessna that I’ve ever seen. We talked (paid too much) him into letting us do a 2 - way when went up for his last tandem at sunset. Was pretty awesome.
Must have scenery.
Looks like it’s still there.
Very cool Chris. I have yet to see one in person. I am sure you are right about it being fun to fly. It is a pity that there have been some fatal accidents in the A5, but I suspect that pilot deficiency was the problem rather than the aircraft itself. I’d certainly like to fly one.
Hey Paul, did you attempt a water landing yet?
I landed it on a narrow stretch of water between two islands. It was kind of choppy, with the plane bouncing all over the place. I’ll try again at a seaplane base and see if it is any better.
In the meantime Dan, you might like these…(sorry, I don’t have a C182, so a 207 will have to suffice)…
Nice Paul. When we jumped there in the 90s, there was only a jumpmaster and a pilot working out of the back of a U-Haul from a dirt parking lot. We landed in the grass to the left side of the road leading in. Looking at their web site now, it appears that they do tandems only and have upgraded the facility and aircraft.
I remember looking at my watch as I climbed out and stood on the small step on the right gear strut, with the other leg dangling. It was exactly sunset and a spectacular view in all directions. To the north, it looked like either the University of Miami or the NWS had a weather balloon co-altitude with us about 10 5 miles away. After exit I took a quick look down and remember thinking that the landing area looked so tiny. Was a jump to remember.
It’s great to hear your story Dan. It makes this area a lot more interesting to fly around.
So, North East of Sugar Loaf Shores airport by about 5nm, I found this…
Have you found any alligators?
No alligators that I have seen so far, but I haven’t explored the Everglades yet.
Playing around just West of Key West… maybe Key Even Farther West?
Dry Tortugas Light… aka Loggerhead Lighthouse.
I’m really enjoying this new OrbX scenery. It has already had me flying some of the seaplanes in my hangar that I really haven’t spent much time with.
Yeah, 5 NM sounds more accurate Paul. Not sure why I said 10, because that would almost not be worth mentioning. Very cool though. Thanks for posting.
Oh, I don’t know. 10nm really isn’t that far.
Domhenry, who recently gave us the Lightning, has just released his DH Vampire…
The 3D cockpit is basic, but the external 3D model is excellent. Certainly worth checking out…
He has also updated the Lightning. It is still a handful, but a little more controllable at slower airspeeds.
As we having the Yak month. Check this out, some extra work spent on this module, nice !
