X-Plane 11 Screens

Awesome! I didn’t tape the roar of my 3,045 lbs. thrust Pratt’s today…but I’m sure all 757 pilots everywhere turned to see what all the ruckus was about…

This is the 2nd time I’ve flown with him. I told him about DCS last time. We talked the Harrier a lot and I understood everything he said except for the stuff about the radar. And IR pointers. (I REALLY want IR pointers in DCS.) He was interested in trying the sim (mainly to share with his son) but once you explain the controls and accessories needed it really is a boondoggle. Its not just the expense. Its the days spent setting up and the ugly mess it makes of your study (with exception to @Troll). No pilot I have ever promoted flight sims to has shown the least interest in trying.

Flight Factor 757? Worth the investment? I was thinking about adding a Boeing airliner to my lineup. I’d kind of like something with a Freight option.

Very much worth it. It is a showcase module for X-Plane. Give me a couple days to explore the functionality in VR first though…unless @smokinhole already has an opinion on it. Actually, he does and you can find it in the second half of this:

Hmmmm  . Decisions, decisions.

Thanks for your thoughts Chris, and the link to Eric’s article.

I used the FF 757 to learn the flows before going to training. I totally think its worth it. It has some minor flaws that no one unfamiliar with the plane would ever notice nor would they totally offend anyone intimately familiar with it. I’ve never flown it with a joystick or throttle. But the VR integration is excellent. It is set up from the box to be ready to fly purely with the controllers plus pedals. The FMS is basic and departs considerably from the real Pegasus. But it gets the job done. One warning: When climbing VNAV doesn’t work so well. Use a basic mode like FLCH or VS until you get clean. Going down its not so bad.

Their 767-300 is also nice (same type rating). If you think you would like to have the range you might be better off spending your money on that. In real life the 767 flies even better than the 757. It is fingertip sensitive and just a delight.

I know I am a one trick pony with Quatam. I just find the whole thing charming and can’t help myself. I also regret not capitalizing on the ORBX “Leap Day” sale. (I’ll get it when they do it again in 4 years). Apparently on the 1st of the month the Quatam scenery tosses in something special. Maybe I’ve just never flown on the 1st and so never noticed the STOL competition cones. No video to prove it but I just almost stopped by the last cones. Only in X-Plane would Edo brakes be that good.

Thanks for the info Eric. Interesting about VNAV in the climb. On the Global I rarely use FLCH on the way up because I much prefer to have control of my vertical speed (there is a story behind that).

I’ll take a look at the 767. The 75 is such a great looking airplane though.

200+ hours flying around this tiny piece of scenery and I had never noticed this pad before. This is the only helicopter I have that can land on it. Everything else clips through.

Cool. That’s a new one for me too, although I probably need to update the title.

I don’t think its been updated since release.

I just spent the last few hours researching both aircraft, reading about the performance characteristics, watching YouTube reviews etc. Armed with that info, and your observations above, it seems that the 76 is overall the better airplane. So, I am now downloading the 767 Professional Global Package (all 2.2 Gb of it). I assume the updated avionics will be worthwhile. I guess I need to upgrade my Navigraph subscription now so that I can get the terminal charts on the EFB with own ship position. Lots of questions will probably follow.

I haven’t flown her yet, but I’m already impressed.

Lookin’ good! I did not get the enhanced avionics package because my airline has the old stuff. We do have the 767-400 but that is more money than I would care to spend just to complete the fleet. If I can ever be of help just say the word.

Also, please do consider just trying it with VR controls. Even if you don’t fly it that way, just manipulating buttons and switches using the special setup that Flight Factor have programmed is a delight. (there is a guide in the docs portion of the aircraft folder that explains the setup.)

Every time I see a plane in the FedEx livery this incident comes to mind.

Well that’s a bit morbid.

…what?! :grimacing:

Well, I managed to fire her up and get airborne. :sunglasses:

Something I had not tried before… connecting X-Plane 11 to ForeFlight.

Thanks Eric, I will no doubt be asking some questions once I have delved a little deeper. I’ll give the VR controls a try too. One thing I have noticed is that this airplane is far more frame rate friendly than the FF A320 Ultimate. That should make it a better experience in VR.
