I’d wait until 11.5 becomes the release version. This beta isn’t like your typical DCS beta where everything works and you get the new stuff faster.
Mine is performing really, really nicely now with the Vulkan upgrade. As @PaulRix mentioned, some plug-ins aren’t working, but overall I’m very impressed with the performance gains. As @Gunnyhighway mentioned though - it wouldn’t hurt to wait until more of the kinks are worked out.
Thanks @PaulRix I might give it a whirl. It’s been so long since I sat in a real plane that I may have to go virtual to get my general aviation fix for now…
I’ve not done anything but combat sims for so long that it probably wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to fire up XP anyway just for some procedure training to stop the skill bleed in real life
Downloaded a free Japan scenery. Looks pretty nice! I know FS2020 is around the corner, but X-Plane has one of the top lighting/graphics i’ve experienced in a flight sim.
Messing around with the Legacy 650. It’s included in the ERJ Family of regional jets and is a really nice business jet. I wanted to test its range so I took off from Lancaster Regional Airport south of Dallas with a Destination of Valdez Airport in Alaska (PAVD). The Legacy 650 can hold 20k pounds of fuel, and I’m pretty sure I’ll need all of it for this trip. I didn’t take a lot of screens because It was really a test of the range using the ground speed compression.
The approach into PAVD is awesome, so awesome I forgot to take screens. Highly recommend this free ware. The Legacy 650 has an ideal glide slope indicator that pops up on the screen and I don’t know how to take it off, but the mountains below still look awesome from this high up.
If I am not wrong ground speed compression will not increase fuel consumption accordingly. Ground speed is increased, all the other parameters stays intact.
It definitely does increase the fuel consumption, at least in the ERJ’s. Basically its a more cpu friendly way of “realistically” speeding up time because it doesn’t worry about the actual time. You can adjust the time manually to make up for this.
I haven’t tested in the other aircraft, but its really obvious with the ERJ fuel guages it goes down increasingly faster in ground speed x2 x4 x8 x16 modes.
I started that flight with ~20k lb of fuel and ended up with around 1k lbs. Given the max range of the Legacy 650 is listed as 3900nm, Id say thats fairly accurate. That trip was about 2500nm i had a strong head wind, and didnt exactly use max economy profile settings.
Yeah…that’s a good looking aircraft. One of my favorite looking regional jet types just because it has a very classic Learjet type shape to it. I see the 650 on ramps quite frequently…they are pretty popular with companies that use them as business shuttles.
Yes…! I wrote an article about PAVD for PC Pilot 114…awesome airport with some great approaches…
It’s fun to do that approach all the way from Johnstone Point VOR - a long 35.6 mile transition to the LDA…
Were you using real weather too? I’d be getting nervous if the ceilings were low…!
By the way…in general, if you have a significant amount of headwind, max economy will very often also be maximum cruise speed. There is a crossover point for each aircraft where fighting into a headwind with a reduced groundspeed at economy fuel flows is no longer economic. Not sure what it is for the ERJ…probably somewhere around 50 knots of headwind or so perhaps. (And this is a very, very broad statement and individual operating handbooks should be consulted…)
Spend more time downloading scenery and airports than I do flying. Really impressed with the visuals that the UHD mesh provides.
I’m afraid that I’ve neglected my XP11 install for like six months now, due to the Supercarrier being inbound (boning up on the Hornet) and that maddeningly addictive rally series. But you guys are keeping up the pressure. Need to drag the KA350 out of the hanger soon.
This beauty has brought me back to XP11:
Now I just have to get the autopilot under control and learn to fly IFR. Oh, and of course the communication with the ATC…unfortunately you don’t really learn that in DCS.
Did you do anything other than the mesh to get seasonal textures? I swear flying over parts of Alaska and Canada today that there was a noticeable lack of snow.
Getting back into XP11 again, got the 11.50 beta up and running on Vulkan. It’s running great, can’t believe the only money I’ve spent on is the base game compared to the countless paid addons for FSX/P3D.
Highly recomend any airports by MisterX6, fantastic work.
There’s a seasons option in the scenery animation manager plugin to get more snow.
You probably have SAM already, lots of freeware airports use it. It has different options and the “Deep Winter” even puts snow on the trees. It’s pretty good. Also has different colored trees for the other seasons.
All of the scenery I have is freeware also, no surprise mister x is making payware now. He deserves it.
Are you flying the zibo 737?
Ok good to know! I do have SAM but I only just installed it and hadn’t messed around with it too much.
Yup. Fantastic plane.
A couple shots from exploring the JustSim scenery that were on sale for 5 Euro each today…this is LFSB and LEPA. Exceptional quality…pretty happy with these two…
