X-Plane Releases Thread (2019)

I always thought of the Premiere as a bit of an ugly duck. The fuselage needs to be stretched several feet IMHO  .

I like it a lot!
It looks like the same size as the Citation Mustang or the Honda Jet. I like those little planes.

I’m sure it is a great airplane, but just not exactly graceful.

Graceful:

Agreed. I don’t like the guppy look to it and it has an ugly stance on its landing gear. In that size plane I think the Embraer Phenom 100 and 300 are much more attractive…

The Phenom’s look great. Especially the 300.

I mean…this is not swimsuit calendar stuff…

True, but I bet that you could fill it with swimsuits easily.

I mean, it’s kinda cute in that you want to pat it on the head and say “awwwww” kind of way.

But you wouldn’t want your friends to see you walking down the flight line away from it, either.

I like her curves.
The belly reminds me of my favourite business jet, the Citation X (still not in XP11, at least not a well modeled one as far as I know).
Her nose is a tad too bug for her body though.

This looks pretty nice for freeware

Yeah, its terrible. I bought it hoping it was good, but was badly disappointed.

Nice little scenery for Trinity Center Airport (O86) up near Redding, CA…it may require a library that isn’t all that widely used (PuF Libs) so check the requirements…

Nice looking Billings Logan International (KBIL) freeware:

I did pick up Active Sky XP today since it is on sale. I like the weather depiction - not crazy about the clouds themselves (they are too dark). My understanding is that they are just working on the clouds, injection, and other features before they get to graphics representations. One thing is for certain, though it doesn’t really look as good as SkyMaxx Pro, it is way, way faster on framerates. I’ll be interested to see how it handles weather changes and stuff…been going through the options for it.

One thing I wasn’t sure about ASX was when using the HDR mode on in VR. Did you have any trouble with that, as I think I get some weird ‘cloud only in left eye’ sort of thing going on? Maybe it is just XP11 and VR and HDR on, it is only recently that I was able to try it, so perhaps everyone gets this?

I think I’ve been using HDR off when in VR because I think it impacts performance the most. I think I’m two clicks down to the left on that slider if I’m not mistaken. I’ll check it out tonight though…

I’ve turned it off, as it was really weird with the clouds. I also got a really weird effect sat at KSEA, where the top part of the screen was sort of corrupted. I hope it’s just a XP11 beta thing or a driver issue.

The trouble is that flying at night without HDR in the Zibo 737 is tough, mainly because the dome lights are HDR only. I’ll just have to fly during the day.

Yeah - I had noticed that X-Plane 11 has never played well with HDR in VR. I was using SkyMaxx Pro for the last few years and it too showed artifacts with clouds in HDR and VR.

Beach, did you use the replacement textures? I think that I’m using the low res set, and thought them quite nice. Definitely not Clod Art level.

Dot Org Store: 3D Eiger Park

I took some screenshots and deleted them by mistake. So, sorry for the lack of screens. Eiger Park lacks a little of the artistry of Quatam River, where every detail seems managed down to the square foot. But that might be too high a standard. Plus, in terms of object count, there is much more here to see. The uniquely Swiss homes, churches and chalets are abundantly placed. I am no fan of Ortho textures and here too they lose some of their charm when low and slow. I admit though that there is probably no way to present a convincing, populated valley without them. These guys have done their best to make it look its best. Mt. Monch has one massive serac that I had to fly within a few hundred feet of before it was clear that it wasn’t a 3D poly. The mountains are breathtaking. There are a few high meadow villages with small headscratchers like airborne trams hovering over impossibly inclined tracks. These tiny little detail flaws may be because I am using alpilotx’s HD4 mesh. But anyway, they barely qualify as annoyances. One town, Grindelwald maybe(?), is detailed enough that X-Plane just begins to show signs of struggle in VR, but not enough to be a showstopper. If you want some high altitude helicopter practice where it is not uncommon to find the left pedal hitting the stop, Eiger Park is not a bad choice. Looks great at night too with most towns generously lit. For $25 I’m happy.

[edit (a few days later)]: I take it back. I can’t really endorse this scenery. First it requires a little horsepower to run. I barely have enough. More importantly, it covers a very small footprint. While the thousands of objects placed indicate massive work done, the charm wears of after an hour. Thirdly, the boundaries between Eider and the surrounding mesh is harsh in places. The city of Interlacken for instance is erased. Its ok if one has a particular love for the area or wants to use it as a sandbox for some other creative effort, then maybe its worth the money. Not for me. ]
