Tried out the Vulkan beta today. Night and day difference! Getting 100+ FPS with all the settings maxed. Drops considerably in VR, but it’s still completely smooth. Very impressed.
After long hiatus this is hopefully come-back for DF dev rather than ‘one shout in the dark’ :
Great news! I’ve given XP an extended break while waiting for Vulcan to come to the release version. But now I can’t wait!
That’s great news. I tried little Schweizer recently and it was a mess. Really looking forward to flying it again.
It’s a mess no longer! The are a few small issues that may be associated with the beta. There is a repetitive “clicking” sound that can be fixed by moving the interior sound slider to zero (so we know it’s a S300 noise and not an XP exterior noise.) Anyway, it’s a little better with the headset on. The VR controls (the only way I fly) only work in “Realistic” as the Ergonomic controls are inverted in pitch. I just move my seat so that the cyclic is hovered over my thigh and I can fly for hours comfortably this way. I hate the governor. The real machine doesn’t have one and real pilots shouldn’t need one . I have two unused buttons (the side buttons on my RiftS controllers). One is assigned to “throttle up a little bit” and the other to “throttle down a little bit.” A little awkward at first but after that it’s fine.
The sounds are terrific, other than the annoying little click. If you try to fly “fast” with a high manifold pressure of around 24-25", you can really hear the strain in the gearbox behind your head. As for “Vulcan”, I am late to the beta party. I notice no difference. I wasn’t seeking any performance improvements and apparently I got what I was seeking. What I did loose was the VR loading screen. Instead the screen freezes DCS-style until I get into the pit. I don’t really care about that either, so ALL GOOD! A word of caution, the beta kills all sound in the B407. There is a plugin download that can be found here: Bell 407 for XP11 - Have an issue? - Page 28 - Bell 407 - X-Plane.Org Forum . That’s beta only. When the beta becomes release the B407 will update on the storefront.
Update on the blurry texture situation. Haven’t run into it with B9 yet, but I’ve just decided to keep object density at High instead of Max until its sorted for us 8GB people.
Not noticed it myself. I’m set on Medium objects though, and 1-notch below high on textures (in VR I can’t see much diff. anyway I think).
The clouds and clouds + rain/snow is killing my frames. Seems moreso than the previous beta (6 or 7, or was it 8?).
Looks good
Nice…! I just wrote a review for the magazine about the updated Aerosoft / LimeSim Lukla - Mount Everest Extreme package for P3D v4/v5. It is really great…it has a half a dozen high quality airports, and another half a dozen lower quality airports…and an enormous scenery area (I think it was 400km x 400km). Great value for the money (particularly when it goes on sale). Oh, and it also includes the Twin Otter for free…which is one of my favorite P3D planes…so that is an extra bonus.
Nice. When I was doing AH2 on P3D I based out of PAVD (Valdez). The XP 11 scenery looks, actually, better. Though I’d not updated the P3D version in a long time.
Another nice one from the Wookie1…
“Totem Pole Ranch Airport is a small private dirt strip in the northern Sierra Nevada approx. 30nm northwest of Lake Tahoe. Its field elevation is at round about 5000’ and is 1800’ long.”
X-Plane .ORG is having their Memorial Day sale now!
Ooohkay, Q400 or DHC-6?
Both are pretty great. The Twin Otter will get you into more spots though…and the Q400 (I think) did not have a great FMC…might even have been the default one. But at least the Q400 was updated to work pretty well with XP-11…
Confirmed by the developer - unlike AH2 for P3D, in which you imported specific liveries for aircraft - with X-Plane you can just change the livery in game. So there ya’ go…
Wrong post…!
There’s a new q400 in development by fjs… No idea on eta but ya. Can’t wait for that.
