Altuve is Venzuela’s favorite son. At 5’6" (167cm) he was told he was too short for baseball.

He was signed as a free agent for $15,000.

He’s now a 6 time All Star, a World Series champ, and is the 2019 ALCS MVP. Altuve rules.

Oof.

I don’t get it.

Spirit Halloween is a pop-up store here in the States that sells cheap Halloween costumes. They appear at the beginning of every October, usually in abandoned stores that the company can lease out cheaply from the previous owners/ tenants. For example, in my old neighborhood they’d pop up in what used to be the Toys R’ Us after they went bankrupt, and years before it was old Circuit City locations after that brand also went under.

Haven’t been into baseball for a long time, but when I was a kid growing up in Ohio
the Big Red Machine ruled! What a freaking lineup.

If you are a baseball fan, this hurt

Sad news for baseball fans everywhere. More an more of the great ones are leaving us every day.

That is sad. We just lost Bob Gibson, too. In my opinion, an easy candidate for the greatest pitcher of all time. It’s honestly a toss up between him and Satchel Paige, for me.

Thread necromancy
 go!

I haven’t watched a whole lot of baseball in the last two years but recently a German TV station has started to broadcast a bit of MLB so I watch a game sometimes. Today it is Minnesota

And today I saw something
I had to google whether I am the only one who sees it. I am not.
And I cannot unsee it now.

I also noticed that there is a new rule in play.
In the 10th inning the offense starts with a runner on second base.

What do y’all think of that rule change?

May as well just load the bases and lob the ball to the batter underhanded.

Maybe I am missing something there.

You seem to think that it is an unfair advantage for the offense.

But both teams get a chance, do they? They play the whole inning so it doesn’t favor one team does it? (Unlike the NFL overtime rule).

The reason for the change is making the game a bit faster and more interesting (opposed to playing, say, five extra innings without any runs).

I would probably agree with you if it was third base, that would be kinda weird, but the statistical chance to score from second base isn’t that great, isn’t it?

So, are you opposed to the change because you disagree with the goal, or do you disagree about the means to achieve it? Or something else that I as a baseball noob completely miss?

Would you for example agree if it was first base instead of second?
