Actually in baseball lingo, a runner on second is called “being in scoring position” - it’s very possible that a properly-hit single can get a baserunner around to home plate, especially depending on who’s fielding that single.
Oh, I didn’t know that, thanks!
Just not a fan of gimmicks designed to make the game more exciting
As Navy mentioned, especially in the Pro game, a runner getting from second to home is not that uncommon.

Yeah that’s a valid reason. Don’t fix what isn’t broken I guess.
My biggest issue with it, is that it’s designed to address issues with the game running long in a TV slot. If I pay for tickets, I want as much baseball as they will play. If I’m sitting at home, I can always just watch the SportsCenter highlights later. Yes baseball is a slower game then say basketball, but a lot of that has to do with the modern stat driven game. If they added some limits to pitcher changes (swapping in a reliver for 1 batter) and warm up times they’d probably save 2-3 innings worth of time.
This is a huge problem with the increasing use of real-time analytics and statistics, thanks to AWS and others. And it’s definitely slowing down the game, dramatically.
That’s less an issue now because of the 3 batter minimum. It can only happen if the pitcher faces the final out. He can be replaced next inning. If he isn’t replaced to start the inning, he must still face the remaining required number. If that number is 1 and he is then replaced, next pitcher has to face 3.
If they really want that rule to work it should be outs, but w/e.
Wait, that’s another rule I wasnt aware of. Do I understand correctly: a pitcher has to throw until either the inning is over or there have been three batters at bat?
Yes. It was introduced to try and deal with exactly what you guys were talking about - having a pitcher throw for one batter then changing him out for another. This was sometimes happenijg to the point where you’d have 3 pitchers for 3 outs (rare but ya). The infamous LOOGY is basically no more.
Lefty one out guy.
