Actually, if you exported your aircraft to a spreadsheet like I did, in what must have been a case of being more lucky that smart, it’s pretty easy to get them back in. I must have had a “wonder what this button does” moment.
Do we know the file format of AH1’s data file for aircraft?
Yeah. That one is on my short list of good prospects. My only concern is the 6,347’ of runway - which might be a tad limiting for anyone that wants to fly the bigger airplanes (like larger transport category).
According to Air Hauler 2 (P3D) the opening cost for KCLM are $105,000 and a monthly rental of $16,705, which is not bad for that size airport.
I was also looking at KEAT - Pangborn in the center portion of the state. 7,000’ of runway and an ILS. $125,000 to open it and a monthly rental of $12,500.
Another on the list is KBLI - Bellingham, but that one only has 6,700’ of runway. $130,000 to open and $16,309 monthly rental.
Yakima - KYKM is also pretty attractive with 7,604’ of runway and an opening cost of $145,000 and $18,850 monthly.
Maybe @smokinhole can chime in with what kind of runway length the 757/767 needs for cargo operations. If we get to the point where we are making big time money - my golden prize would be KPDX down in Portland. That baby has a $435,000 opening cost and $43,895 monthly rental - so you have to have some big planes generating some revenue to justify that - but it is a beautiful airport.
ILS’s are nice to have, assuming we’re going to use real world wx?
Or am I being a wussy?
WA ortho d/l is at 12%. Going faster than I thought.
Definitely. I like me an ILS at my home airport. Some of our bush planes might only have “green needle” instruments too (no GPS)…so at the minimum we need a VOR, NDB, or ILS approach (unless we want to hire a full time controller to do PAR approaches…know anyone?? )
Ha…it isn’t the download…it will be the conversion to DDS (or from DDS) that takes forever. You may see smoke pouring from your CPU…
LOL, I was just thinking that…last time I ran one was, oh, 1988.
We used to call it the ‘pit’; on CAVU days you didn’t do much – stuck in the pit, all day.
We’d try to drum up business when a Navy or AF cross-country flight would wander by. Occasionally you’d get a GA guy to bite. They always thought it was fun. Not sure we were allowed to do it but, hey, it was the 80’s.
There was an ‘art to it’, actually.
Here is the list of Washington State airports with lights and ILS sorted by runway length. I think we should avoid the military bases… *I would think 2000 meters would be our minimum requirement maybe… (or 1932! to keep CLM in the running!)
Just a name change: MudSpike Aero Club. They’ll never know.
I still have my DoD ID card from when I was 12 years old. I’m sure they haven’t changed much.
MP: “Sir, this says you are 12 years old and are 98 pounds…”
A few other considerations. Seattle area scenery can be pretty dense…so I’m trying to avoid anything right smack in that area. The central part of the state allows for a nice “spoke” pattern to radiate out from the field providing good out and back opportunities. As well…some of will want to venture eastward toward Idaho and those magnificent dirt strips out there.
Agree. Do we know aircraft pref’s from everyone? At the moment I’m leaning more towards the small stuff, under 3 hour radius trips anyway. Still eyeballin the C207 from Alabeo. Next months allowance
My Honeycomb Alpha has shipped! I’ll have a quick & dirty review in a week-ish. Though my only personal comparo has been with the CH Yoke.
And I like the name “Walla Walla”. Though it’s a tad short on the asphalt/concrete. Seems a bit pricey in comparison to, say, Bellingham.
We’ve had a range - seems like most people are angling for the smaller GA planes. I’m probably going to go with the Propstrike 172 Bush at this point. Which is why I’d like to stay over toward the eastern side of the state. I’d love it if ORBX gave Idaho their treatment. I have the Forkboy ortho for Idaho…but he didn’t make any for Montana, so I should probably build some for that.
Haha…you missed out when we went to “Pago Pago” a few years ago on one of our Mudspike adventures…
If I had to guess, I’d say 9000’ minimum.
Good stuff. Reading it now - as I watch the Ortho status bar couuuuuunnnttt: 21.8%. Dang, lot faster than I thought.
So Yakima is pretty nice looking in X-Plane w/ ORBX…
But Pangborn (KEAT) actually has a nicer curbside appeal with that river and mountains in the near distance…
No control tower at Pangborn though…and I have to admit I have an affection for tower controlled airports out in the real world…
