Precisely and if you do any jobs going to either of the VA bases then jobs for those will also start being generated. I have found the more fields I land at the more jobs are generated in that area. I have around 75 jobs available to me now just from having 2 bases but doing lots of runs to local airfields.
Ahhhh. Good one that.
I don’t think a transferred job to the VA will earn you any REP points - it does earn the VA REP points though…but it doesn’t help you personally out on your quest. Which is a bummer…
That is very handy for those instances where the X-Plane database doesn’t match up with the AH2 database for airport location. I’ve had some occasions in AH2-P3D where I’ve had to truck the load the last few miles to the destination. Great to see it showing up in X-Plane now too…
My immediate quest is to get better at ‘old school’ navigation. Got myself all screwed up leaving KYKM yesterday:
I was going to engage the AP and twirled the wrong knob - not the HDG kay-nob, the one to the left of it! Was midday so no shadows to clue me in. Then I noticed that big old mountain wasn’t where it should have been. Finally clued in that the wet compass would re-orient me, mostly. Not sure that was correct, but it got me back. Good thing it wasn’t IMC.
Then, big picture, there’s something I heard a long time ago, in the context of flight sims - exploration. Think it may have been from the FS team itself (early 2000’s), to paraphrase, “it’s not so much about the sim as it is about exploration”.
And for me learning stuff. Never stop learning. Just needs to be something I’m interested in, of course.
So, I’m thinking (uh oh): I’ll open another base for the -172 Bush but not at one of the VA bases. The jobs I get from there can be transferred to the VA and should add more options/variety for others to use.
Looking a KCOE right now. I mean, how expense could it be? All I need is a mobile home for a ops center (doesn’t even need to be a double-wide). Or a walk-in closet in the FBO, right?
Not finding any way to determine the cost of creating a base ahead of time yet…
Man, don’t tell me I have to fly to an airport to start the process of building a base - to find the cost to do so? There’s this thing call a phone!?
Haha…yep - you do! And then you have to wait a day or so for it to be constructed!
Yeah I get having to fly there to actually build/create the base (and signing the analog contract), but I’d just like to know what it will cost me ahead of time.
Oh well. Suiting up, grabbing the checkbook…
I think I see why you like Idaho so much…
From Google Earth:
“Idaho has 250+ airports of which 140+ are unpaved. Idaho’s system of recreational airstrips provides access to countless backcountry wilderness areas, supporting Idaho’s tourism industry and local economies throughout the state. These same airstrips serve as staging areas for search and rescue operations, fire suppression, and wildlife and natural resource management activities.”

This one is really nice too…has links to airfield diagrams…

Good find. I’m enroute to KSUN. This seems about the right spot; Forkboy2 has stuff within range (no Canada stuff anywhere but i’ve not really looked). Lets see what they want for a corner office.
Canadian airports, all see to be free: http://canada4xplane.weebly.com/
Well, I suppose this answers the question I was going to ask. I have a job that goes to OWN4 in Washington (Olympia Helipad) that’s not in the database. It’s basically right off one of the KOLM taxiways. Not sure I can get there from KOLM though. So before I fly there, was going to ask if there’s anything I need to be aware of to finish the job :). I guess I have my answer now!
Perhaps a bit of a “hack”, but what about re-launching AH2 and starting a New Company (you don’t have to wipe your current one out)? Then when picking the airport, it’ll show you costs and such. Not sure if it’ll be the right costs though. May be a way to “cheat” it a bit though.
Go to your company or personal fleet, I cant remember the exact name but choose the option to fly the aircraft to another location. Then, search by area, county, city or whichever you like and then sort that list by upfront cost or monthly cost etc. That’s how I found quincy municple (80T) near KEAT for £15k upfront.
Hadn’t thought of that. Seems he (Sloopey) really wants you go fly BAD. I get it, so do I, but it’s just a simple look-up value. Anyway…
Splashed down at KSUN (Sun Valley Idaho). Base costs:
KSUN
Construction: $335,000
Monthly: $57,255
Build Time: 5 Days
Seems steep, but what do I know. Probably all those “Hollywood types” hangin out and driving up the rent.
EDIT: It’s an interesting place to fly into I think. Wind was smokin from the S reqr’g I land on 13. Field is in a valley with a lotta BIG ROCKS on 3 sides.
In the -172 Bush it’d be dicey in IMC: only 1 approach you can shoot:
Fld Elv: 5320’
NDB/DME-A with like 2800’ mins. Ick. But could be a fun Ick.
I love you man! I had my columns ‘squished’ and didn’t notice that before. Many thanks!
An obvious spot for me would’ve been an “Airport Info” tab.
You’re welcome!! There are some insane bargains out there!
Whew…! Too rich for my blood…
Your approach mins are a bit high too…but you have Joslin Field just to the south with a 200 1/2 ILS…
