Automobilista 2

Thanks! Will try.

Will that help me launch AMS2 in VR?
Been ages since I used OC. I normally just overwrite the openvr_api.dll file and leave it at that…

New update about the next update, plus new Premium stuff.

I’m really excited about getting Road Atlanta. I love that track, so beauitful and flowing.

It’s my favorite track for sure. I’ll be there this year for Petite Le Mans.

New Update out now… just FYI

Automobilista V1.6.3 Is Now Released! This is a major game-changing update that transforms AMS2 in multiple Racing Simulators - all packaged into just one.

One of these is the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscars Championship, featuring the vast majority of cars, liveries and circuits that made up the 2024 Season of one of the most prestigious Endurance series in the World, with more to come!

The new update also features a completely overhauled UI, four new free cars, overhauled sounds, physics, AI & Multiplayer along with extensive updates to all existing content.

The New DLCs - FREE FOR THE WEEKEND

The three new DLCs and their respective Steam release pages are going to live with the release of the V1.6 updat. As is now tradition, the contents of the three new DLCs will be free for all users to enjoy over this initial weekend. At some point early next week they will revert to being available exclusively to those who own them

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • All car setups have been reset given the extent of the physics updates (no user input required to reset them)

  • All Time Trial Records have been reset due to track & car physics updates

  • Wet Skill option allows you to adjust the AI Skill in various levels of wet confitions without impacting their performance in the Dry)

  • In case users has any trouble with the new update, or still has a Multiplayer race still to be run on the current V1.5.6.3 they may revert to it by right-clicking AMS2 in your Steam Library → Properties → BETA, and selecting previousbuild from the dropdown (no password required).

  • Career mode: It´s part of the new GUI design, and it´s coming - not any time soon (more info in the upcoming Dev Update)

KNOWN ISSUES & LIMITATIONS

  • 48-car grids are just for Single Player, and availablw only if user has 12GB of RAM or more; else max grid size remains 32 cars

  • For grid sized higher than 32 cars, cars may share pit boxes and may be spawned on top of each other in ghosted (no collision) mode for both Single and Multiplayer

  • To ensure reliability, we strongly recommend no more than 28 clients in MP (unless host has already been running 32-car fields reliably)

  • AI calibration stil receiving further fine-tuning in the coming days especially for wet conditions; faster karts do not have working AI yet

  • There is a known issue with championship scoring when racing a field containing mixed classes with multi-class scoring disabled

  • In the event of issues saving triple screen configuration via the in-game UO, user may do so by manually editing at ‘Documents\Automobilista 2\triplescreensettings.xml’

I am holding off on the ‘new’ DLC. LMU has endurance racing covered for me… so far. I guess we will see how that all pans out?

But I mainly play AMS2 for historic F1, especially the 80’s turbo era.

And truck racing, that is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine

I drove, or tried to drive, 2 online races and 2 offline races in a mixture of LMDh, LMP2, and GT3 cars.

Observations: The new physics model is really, really, really good now. It’s very complete, although maybe a little less so than LMU. But the gap has really closed, IMHO. At the limit there is a lot of feel and you can save slides in believable ways. The tires get progressively grippier not only as they warm, but as the car burns off fuel, and as to me, as the track gets more laps. The default setups are pretty good.

Road Atlanta is the best rendition that I’ve driven in any sim. And I really like how Sebring is bumpy, but not ridiculously so as in some other sims. The only new car that I tried was the Audi R8, but didn’t care for it as compared to the Porsche. At Road Atlanta, I was over a second per lap quicker in the 992 GT3 R.

In the two online races I tried, both were LFM that I joined from inside AMS2. I’m not sure if this is the preferred way, but it worked. A third LFM race didn’t let me in, requiring a password. I didn’t try logging into LFM first due to time constraints. In the two races that I got in, practice and qualifying went well, but then the sessions took a long time advancing from qualifying to Race. So drivers began bailing after qualy. The races eventually started, but I bailed in both because I didn’t want to drive an LMP2 for an hour against only 4 or 5 other drivers. LFM integration is in beta.

One thing that I noticed is that the AI are more aggressive and don’t mind shoving carbon fiber where the sun doesn’t shine, or pit turning you in a race. I forgot to check what settings I had set.

The FFB gain went up pretty high on my Fanatec gear. I lowered the gain in the Default+ FFB profile to 50% from 75 and that seemed like a good place to start. If memory serves, you can adjust this in the tuning menu per car.

I just got done trying out the Lambos and all the tracks. Man, those tracks are really well represented. And the bumps on the last corner at Sebring. These circuits really seem to be top notch.

Nice Lamborghini comparison in AMS2 and LMU.

That’s basically a coin toss…

I find the behavior of cars in AMS2 more believable, at least from the external views

I haven’t done a back to back comparison since LMU was just released.

That was with the Porsche LMDh at Spa. The AMS2 car was a lot more forgiving (i.e. felt easier to drive) but surprisingly, average lap times even though they were within 1 second of my LMU times weren’t as quick!

There were a couple of other little touches, like the LMU Porsche exiting the garage on electric only and the ‘engine’ firing up driving down pit lane… and the overall sounds are better with LMU. But like I said. It’s a coin toss.

Next time I have my pit set up for cars I will have to do another test.

I am just judging from the visuals. dont own any of the sims.

but looking forward to your findings. proving grounds were always interesting

I was messing around with a wireless link to my headset last night and ended up driving ACC back to back with AMS2, only because the former seemed to handle latency a little better. In the end, I went back to the cable for the smoothest experience at higher graphic settings.

AMS2 added the hybrid launch behavior with 1.6. One thing that I’m curious about are the dashboard ilight arrays. I believe that they indicate traction control usage. Anyway, the ones in AMS2 are active.

Yeah ABS and TC are on those dashboard lights though it differs a bit on a car per car basis how they react.

I love the new Audi in Group A, what a delight to drive! The new physics definitely feel a lot better now though I did enjoy what they had done with 1.5. Classic cars definitely handle more spritely and lively now which I think is one of the strengths of AMS2.

Have you tried any of the CART cars yet? Haven’t myself but they are quite possibly my favourite openwheeler in AMS2.

I’m just glad AMS2 exists - the engine that was developed for Project Cars 2 had so much promise that PC2 never lived up to!

I keep PC2 around just to drive that vintage Le Mans content once in a while.

The '80s truly were a great time for motorsports. Cars like the 962 and C9…

I also keep PC2 for time trials on the Pacific Coast Hwy ‘track’:
