Christmas Trek 2025 ideas?

Hi, raised this on discord as well: Discovered the first cookies and stuff in the super market last weekend, so it’s about time to think about the Mudspike Christmas Trek 2025!

I fixed my fs2024 the other week, so I’m about ready to get airborne for this year. Question is where to? If I may suggest a destination: Livingstone with the Victoria Falls in Zambia, southern hemisphere. A trek to the blistering heat of Africa’s summer. The Falls have a nice scenery for FS2020, but I’m not sure it is possible to move it to fs2024?

Cheers,
TeTeT

I was also going to suggest a destination in Africa, noting that Cape Town has already been done… but that was before my time.

Was thinking about this years Christmas flight as well lately :grinning:

Afrika sounds good.

I was also checking Lapland in Finland as Santas home (as they claim; Rovaniemi airport, EFRO) but that is not too far from last year’s destination) or Sydney as a nice Summer-feel Christmas destination :grinning: But that might not be enough of a challenge for our Australian and New Zealander fellows…

I was thinking of nature preserves in Uganda, Kenya, or Tanzania myself.

I may look at which areas have detailed sceneries in both XP and FS (I’ll be flying in XP, as I still have all the African orthos I created a few years ago installed).

How about the Okavango Delta in Botswana? There is a good payware scenery for the area by SWS for anyone interested.

There’s also this for Xplane:

I like the Africa idea. We could go to Madagascar and find a lemur king. Or maybe Nambia.

I could always head West from my ‘local’ airport and go via Perth, South America and puddle jump across the Pacific

It seems that the Sim Works Studios Okavango Delta scenery is no longer functional which is unfortunate. Evidently it was broken badly by a sim update several months ago.

I downloaded it for FS2024 and did a short night flight there in a Cub, looks ok to me.

Where did you download it from?

Edit - never mind, you were referring to Vic Falls.

BTW, the Vic Falls scenery is on sale for the next 5 days at just $7. Well worth picking up even if we don’t end up going there for the trek.

If we are going to sydney why not a little further south and go to NZRC south in New Zealand?

How about putting up a vote for this year’s Christmas flight destinations?

I am usually awfully slow :grimacing: so the sooner I get going the better :grinning:

Same.

Sounds great, who’s capable to set one up?

Unrelated to the destination we pick, any recommendations for a classic airliner for use on this years Trek in FS2024? I flew the Condor last year in FS2020 and liked it. I just saw a documentary on the Super Constellation which flew out of Basel years ago, but the only version I see is for FS2020.

I think they just released the DC-4 in, perhaps, a semi-functional state. I was considering the FSS B-727 myself.

I’ve heard the AH B-707 can be made functional with a couple of mods.

A-300? If you can do with corporate, the Lear is quite a nice plane to fly and very steamy.
