Normandy, Evening - Port Attack
For @BeachAV8R and @fearlessfrog - some photos with the search lights. They like to all points at the same target - perhaps they think they can concentrate the light like a magnifying glass putting the sun on an ant - and burn it?
These were taken from a couple of runs - all right at mission start, but with 2.5.6 the brightness of the time of day varies widely between “why do we need search lights” and nearly pitch-black. Not sure what is up with that.

is something wrong with exhaust flames? Seems like a bunch of mini afterburners. The lighting on the guns though is fantastic.
IL-2 just has really overdone exhaust flames. They’re clearly visible in the daytime on most planes, so they look ridiculous at night …
They can be quite bright at night.
Here’s a video showing real exhaust flames.
Here’s another.
On Night Fighter Mosquitos they used exhaust shrouds so the pilot wouldn’t be blinded by the light.

Why are AI fishbeds always flying around with their landing lights hanging out? It’s an ancient bug that one.

If the wingman or other AI Fishbed? It’s a bug in the software. If a human controlled MiG-21, it’s a bug in the wetware.

…so I’ve derailed this thread enough, let me try to put it back on track. First with some “comic” screenshots:
My French is a little rusty so I’m not sure what that “HORIZON …something in French” HUD warning means…
…but I’m pretty sure it has something to do with this.
Just a guess.
For some reason I didn’t blow up and all I could think was “…my Dad’s a TV repairman. He’s got an awesome set of tools…I can fix this.”
I guess the cargo compartment was full…
