The F-16 you do air braking, so it’s tough to judge but I always felt the F-15C wasn’t a quick stopper either.
I know it was put up for debate on the ED bug section, not sure what came of it though.
The Eagle doesn’t stop well either. I agree with that although you can aero brake that one a bit easier than the hornet

Yeah, the Warthog just waits for the Earth’s rotation to bring the runway under it and then drops gear. Cheating, really.
Not gonna lie, it does take a bit, but eventually we get there.
What’s your Anti-Skid Switch position? For runway landing it should be enabled, for carrier landings it should be off.
I’ve found the Hornet to be a slow stopper too, but doable. I flare just a bit and plant it down, then extend the airbrake. As I slow to 100kts or so I’ll give full aft deflection in the hopes that those massive horizontal stabs work as airbrakes in the sim, then slam the toe brakes. That usually works for me.
I’ve tried toggling the antiskid switch while taxiing. Go up to 40 kts, hit brakes. Flip switch, go to 40 kts, hit brakes. Obviously I’m doing this ashore and not on carrier.
In both cases wheels seem to lock up and leave black streaks on the ground. In fact, I’ve seen them lock and skid at speeds of 20kts. While this is happening, coefficient of sliding friction is much lower than static (of course) so stopping power goes away.
It seems like the wheels lock up far too easily, regardless of switch position.
WHAT AN ADVENTURE! @Victork2 and @Scoop, have I got a story for you!
(For everyone else, this turns into an AAR at the end, I swear!)
Here we can see I am preliminarily setting up the laser code for my mavericks with a number that I like to use (my favourite number is 76) and my TGP is on and the laser is armed with A/G mode active.
It is now a good time to deselect those mavericks and make sure your TGP code for LTDC is set as well.
Next, we will find the target with the TGP normally, and not yet select our maverick. Once we have our target found, get the best picture we can - narrow or wide with adjusted zoom - and set a point track by pushing over the DDI selector to the right (for TGP on right) to go between no track, area track (ATRK) and point track (PTRK). With the target boxed, we need to use the TDC to “mark” our target. Next, fire that laser and keep it on! (You will need to select the TRIG OSB so that it is boxed).
Now, select your maverick and move the DDI focus over to it. For me, it found the target all by itself and I noticed that with the LMAV up it would not let me cage it - even with my laser off. It would cage, then uncage itself and keep searching.
With the target found (solid square on MAV screen), and launch paramters OK (near boresight or directly below and in range) we can shoot!
Target eliminated - you can see my second maverick is also trying to find the laser. I will now deselect the laser maverick in order to work with the TGP.
It is useful to note that with the TGP up, the RAID/FOV button works for the MAV, not the TGP regardless of which DDI is focused. You can still make use of it’s functions via the OSB’s on the TGP page though.
The cage uncage button will work on the TGP with it selected, but doesn’t play nice with the Maverick selected while the TGP is up and a target point is designated. While I didn’t test with the LMAV (I only had two) it may work if you have not designated the target with the TDC (use NWS to clear that).
Target number two is locked up, and we repeat our earlier process. Here, I am off boresight so I straightened that up a bit.
Two down!
Now it is time for our IR mavericks. It is key to note that with these they work differently than in the Warthog. By default, you must hold down the TDC button to slew the seeker, releasing it will attempt a lock. You can turn this off in the Hornet’s special options to make it like the Hog. I keep it on, and have two bindings for TDC on my TM WH throttle - once is the slew controllers “click” that I mainly use for “clicky” targeting - like the radar. The other, is Boat Switch Forward - since it “locks” meaning I don’t have to hold it down - this I use for MAV’s.
Marking a target with the TGP, and our IR MAV spooled up - an uncage results in the MAV going for the TGP’s target…how cool is that! I cannot slew it manually, nor does the RAID/FOV button toggle FOV.
I “click” the TDC (toggled my boat switch) to lock on (close the reticle) and then shoot.
Rolling back around, I want to make my own target this time - while the TGP is still up. So I use NWS button to clear my target and now I can control my maverick normally. Hold the TDC down, slew onto target, release to lock, and shoot!
I went danger-close to get this for you, and I took some return fire…
Emergency jettison stores, dump fuel, we need to drop that weight! (Does it calculate the missing wing?) We’ve made it near home, but we have to land somewhat err…fast - if I deploy the flaps (right wing) I will flip over for sure… I am flying the approach with the speedbrake out to keep my speed tamed and rudder, stick and differential thrust keep me level…ish.
Steady! Steady!
We may not be back at the carrier, but we are alive and saved the taxpayers some money!
@Wes that’s a great little guide there. I’ll give it a try and see how it goes. Thanks for putting that together and putting yourself and the taxpayers money in harms way ![]()
Your next livery will have left wing painted in red and we switching your callsign to SoloWingWes. Carry on.
And secured some bragging rights in the bar!
I’ve seen planes with less damage than that written off as “beyond economical repair”. Even odds it gets cannibalized for parts!
I guess they need to learn from ED!
If the pilot is alive and onboard, we can fix it!

Pounding the HQ target
@Dark_Star lining up for a CBU drop
We just could not put away the HQ target, after an hour and a half. Need a bit more firepower! It was getting late and we all had to get some shut-eye.
