Well… There are several modes to the terrain warning.
In normal mode it will activate when radalt <150m or in ground radar mode it will activate at 7s to impact. When arming anti shipping missiles (Rb04 or Rb15) it will activate when outside launch altitude parameters.
So, depending on the situation…you need to do something, or risk having to explain to the CO why you returned without your Viggen.
Oh, he knows…he knows…
I didn’t catch the min launch altitude for the ASCMs…I prefer the Rb04 and I know it has an altitude launch envelope which can put you in an enemy MEZ if you are not careful. I was just flying the proscribed middle of the envelope but now I think I’lll go down until I get the light, then back up a bit.
Anna looks ready to show a poor fool all corners of the mat in a round or two of BFM.
LOL! Yep.
We have a saying in the carrier Navy, “You can’t push the ship with the nose of your jet.”
Believe it or not, this was my first attempt at low visibility carrier landing in F-14 in DCS. I always trapped during daytime and good weather.
Nice. Jester didn’t eject! LOL…must have been all good.
Yeah, but he was suspiciously quiet back there though… I think he fainted or took a quick nap
COVID on the ship.
I experienced the Tomcat’s compressor stalls for the first time and it scared the bejeezus out of me.
The first time I experienced them after battle damage I thought someone was trying to finish me off lol.
Did you try an emergency deployment of the gear by twisting the lollipop and then moving the handle down?
Really nice video damson. It does seem that Jester snoozes from time to time. Question on the DLC, did you basically set it when you where dirting-up and leave it there, or did you tweak it in the groove? Also, I kept expecting the FPM to line up with E bracket but it never did. I think that you were mostly using the AOA indicator to the left of the HUD, but does the E bracket normally index with something else in the HUD?
My VPC V.F.X arrived on Monday and it really ramps up the realism. Need to tear myself away from the Viper for a bit and revisit this beast.
I couldn’t clearly see what happened. It looked as though the compressor stall happened when you crossed the missile’s smoke trail?
If so, that’s a real thing. In VF-32 we were doing a MISSLEX down in the PROA (a missile exercise in the Porto Rican Operations Area). One of the AIM-9 shooters had a compressor stall immediately after shooting the missile; the engine choked on the missile’s exhaust.
The pilot was a new guy on his first tour. When he got back, I asked him something like, “so what was it like shooting your first missile?” He answered something like, “I was a bit busy recovering from the compressor stall.” Yeah…dumb question.
I’m using DLC all the time when in the groove. If my AoA (speed) is correct and I’m high I extend the DLC spoilers and when too low I retract them. By doing so I’m basically slewing the plane up/down while not touching throttles or the stick pitch. Really handy.
AoA bracket (blue) lines up with the aircatf attitude(?) symbol (green)
not with the velocity vector
Very helpful damson. Thank you sir.
It is indeed! It doesn’t make landing the Tomcat as easy as landing the Hornet, but it helps a lot.
Yep, that will mess you up until you get used to it, since basically all other planes align the E-bracket with the TVV.
The stalls came up after the engagement when the engine was stuck in SEC. If I ran the power at MIL it would stall, then it would do it again while in turns.
Personally I find landings in the Tomcat easier than in the Hornet. I can catch #3 in the Turkey most of the time, while with the Bug I struggle a lot. Maybe i need more practice with the Hornet
