DCS 2.9

Oh, but their project directors know what they’re doing! And they have the best point of view for that!

Kind of like how 1CGS knew more about our PCs when they refused to give us visual settings beyond presets.

Ugh…they did something else to the SC. I have code to move the SC around, keeping all the ‘bling’ attached and oriented correctly no matter where it is or what the orientation may be (parked equipment and deck crew, LSO’s, etc). The LSO’s went overboard and the stowed Seahawk is now in the middle of the deck. Not good. My math is correct (sure, he says)!

Did a quick flight on the 18 with heavy fog around the Sinai, and the FPS are great…
Anyone wants to try a quick MP tonight?

I don’t know if it’s related, but there was a change in the linking of units so that it automatically links static objects to the ship you place them on without requiring the user to do it manually.

I won’t be around until Sunday evening, maybe Saturday evening (CET) but not sure. I could host something if there’s enough interest.

This weekend is tough for me, I’m having my kids over.

The new fog has some really smooth transitions using the time-based “keys” in manual mode. Here I set it to vis 6000 height 1000 at mission start, then set it to clear 10 minutes after mission start (vis slider max, height slider min), then set it to come back at 20 minutes after mission start.

I don’t understand how the “auto” setting is supposed to work. Typically I have no fog at all when selecting that.

I’m prone to thinking that it means the right combination of atmospheric humidity, temperature and pressure create the logical amount of fog.

How that works, though, it’s far above the pay grade of my brain.

Logically yeah. Only problem is that in DCS we don’t have any control over humidity. And issues with maps not allowing realistic temp ranges.

I just set the cacuases map to about 5am summer time and set fog to auto and it gave a nice hazy look, at sun rise

also just noticed the Iraq map icon at the bottom of the splash page … was this a mistake or is it coming soon tm

YEEEEESSSS! (haven’t checked it yet) If so it would’ve saved me a LOT of time 8 months ago - the system they had wasn’t consistent; some auto-oriented, some used radians to describe orientation, some not, etc. etc.

I was mostly happy cos I had the logic down such that the deck (static objects) wouldn’t look exactly the same every time (along with the ‘boat’ moving about the map throughout the campaign). Ugh, that was a lot of work too.

Fingers crossed. I just wiped the decks clean as I’ve no time to go back and re-address this right now…

So…tried various things again. The ‘Recon Mode’ didn’t work any better than a couple of years ago. Good new: the ‘Padlock mode’ worked better. Still limits however except for cluster munitions (for the AI jet - they still act ‘strange’ with these using any method) using dumb bombs and A2G missiles I was 5/5 getting them to hit what I ‘padlocked’.

Still no go for locking the ground, ie; that building with Bad Guys in it you just flew by. Maybe someday. I’ve update the **PDF linked to in the original topic** on this. So, some slight improvement.

With all the talk about Volumetric lights in the latest DCS release I wonder if the Moon is now reflecting off the water surface.

I almost forgot- does the sun?

I have to make a list of things to test!

Well directors started off cool, but the carrier as a whole is useless now because the IFLOLS got programmed backwards and doesn’t bloody work when you’re in the groove.

The directors also have issues with spatial awareness, telling you to taxi in areas that are already taken by objects or other client aircraft.

IIRC it only works when traveling north.

Not an excuse, of course…

Something something “rigorous testing.” Guess I’ll go back to the Forrestal. Oh wait, the bloom is so bad you can’t distinguish the ball from the datum line :skull:

For what it’s worth I’m honestly sorry.

At least the warbirds still work.

…please?

According to a YT: the deck directors don’t know about static objects - but the collision detection routine does!

Somewhere in here is perhaps the reason I’ve had to ‘clear the deck’ of all decorations (cranes, tow’s, static parked aircraft, personnel, etc). Not even going to look at this again for a while.

But…it sure is pretty [the new, improved, lighting/fog/haze]. Graphics sell games. And video cards.
