I feel there’s a barrier I can’t break down. I preemptively agree it’s an issue on my side. I’m burned out- I can’t articulate words as I think them- and English is not my first language.
It seems that your grievances are:
1- The F-4 should be released without waiting for the ED patch
As I mentioned it’s exactly what’s happening.
2- ED waited until the last moment the test the patch and it discovered now it’s broken
As I mentioned -that’s not what happened as regressions testing has been going on furiously and constantly for at least [redacted] weeks and there’s problems that crop up at the most unforeseeable times.
3- Something else I missed and I can’t focus on, pleaswe help me out here.
EDIT: I wish I could remember (or ask) what your job is without sounding condescending but I know I can’t so… these problems are inherent with all software development that encompasses more than one company (i.e.: main company and several third parties).
Like- Jesus flipping Christ I see that happening at work - with Military Flight sims for the actual Airforce…
3 can be just rolled into 2, really: more efficient/smarter planning to ensure things are done, say 24 hours before a release instead of 6 hours before a release.
(For job: Uni professor. Skeptical/critical thinking, logic, and asking “why why why OH THAT’S WHY” is in my blood )
Well, some are…
But considering that DCS is in constant development we’re never going to see it in a finished state. And it has forever been thus. So, it’s a bit like being surprised that the sun rose today, but that doesn’t stop people…
Edit. And I don’t care as long as the Viggen is updated when I want it to be!
Maybe semantics but to me there’s a difference between the software updates being delayed and the root cause of the delay. It’s the very nature if software development, was my point.
Yeah, Reflected said that the missions won’t load ammo, but I’d argue that the gun in the nose adds weight a long way from CG. Anyway, the correct way to fight with the Phantom is to either use the vertical or extend and pitch back. Or maybe the slatted E will even things up a bit, at the expense of drag. I’m betting that it will be a great campaign regardless. At least when you are finished with that campaign, you will know how to fly A2A in the Phantom.
It’s disappointing, but no great surprise. I feel for those who took a day of PTO for the release. I also feel for HeatBlur because it seems this isn’t their fault in any way. Considering this is such a highly anticipated release, I would have thought that ED would have wrapped up everything on their side of things by the end of last week.
I’m really debating whether to fly that campaign as designed with the locked slats, or fly it with the slats so that I learn to fight the actual F-4E rather than a simulated F-4B/J/alphabetsoup.
I am sympathetic, to the dev’s. Disappointed? A little, maybe. My disappointment normally stems from what ED chooses to prioritize.
This stuff is complicated; low [not high] level complicated, exponentially so. Esp. when you consider it has to run fast.
And it gives me another day to finish adding a feature to my sandbox…hoping as always they haven’t changed something that breaks my something…etc, etc, etc.
