That’s a beautiful pic. Is that a 120 off the rails or do we have longer Aims

I think there’s no AMRAAM for early access, only Sparrow.

Just watch TOPGUN a few dozen times and you’ll get the knack of it.

Back during Vietnam, the Navy wired up a bunch of carrier fighter and attack pilots to a heart monitor, to see what was the most stressful part of combat. The unexpected answer was, by far, landing the jet on the boat…especially at night.

With that in mind… @BeachAV8R’s prowess with the Hornet in this sim is outstanding. While he is a pilot with all those real pilot skills, putting the jet on the deck is a different ballgame. Being able to do it as capably as he has …with no previous T-45 student training like the US Naval Aviators go through…is quite remarkable.

As this lap…er…thread winds down, I’m sure @Navynuke99 will join me a BRAVO ZULU!

Gonna paraphrase heavily since I don’t have it in front of me.
One of the memorable parts of the book War For The Hell Of It about a USAF Phantom type during Vietnam who has has been sent to a CVN to help advise the navy pilots on the use of LGBs was how confused the author was that after what must of been a dangerous mission over Vietnam, all the navy pilots could talk about was the sketchy landing they had just endured during the stormy night. He also semi-joked that this must be due to the “crashes” that the USN describes as “landings”, pilots most likely struck thier heads on the front console thus only remembering the last moments of the flight.

Night carrier landings in the real world must be just plain terrifying. The acceleration on a bolter (or cat launch) can so easily be mistaken for pitching up and it is probably the one thing us sim pilots can’t truly appreciate how vertigo inducing that is. The ocean on a moonless night is a really scary place.

Gosh I wish we had one of those too…(and the Su-25UTG of course…)
