DCS F/A-18C

oh come on JDAM is easy mode for wimps, real men self-lase their GBU-16 or do it old school with a depressed fixed pipper and iron bombs!

( i jest of course)

although jesting, it has a ring of truth. Alas most of the real men doing LGB or CCIP attacks are us simmers…you know, the same real men that navigate the FSX or X-Pane skies using VOR-to-VOR or NDBs…and now in the real world, even the Hi-Alt Airways are starting to go away in favor of GPS point-to-point and improved TCAS.

…I’m getting a little misty here…I need a moment

I often prefer CCIP with Mk82s or 84s to most other types of bombs.

I wanna aim and drop, flipping thru 12 subpages to arm and lase and designate and all that gets in the way.

When it’s an F-19-style sneak attack on a target without them knowing I’m coming it’s one thing, but in the middle of dense ADA and enemy CAP…eh, not so much.

IMHO…white the actual NATOPS manual is good for many things–mostly flying and getting on the boat things–it is non-applicable for many more. Plus, the actual weapons systems NATOPS manual is classified. (As VF-32 SECRET material custodian I had custody of a copy for each pilot / NFO in the squadron…took up 2 drawers of one of my safes!)

To get a good simulator focused manual, might I suggest:

I just bought this one…but there may be more on line.

True…but that’s the whole point of SEAD/DEAD, Mig-Sweeps, counter-air strikes with Tomahawk, etc. Gain local air superiority over the target area so you can fly in and drop the JDAMs from an altitude clear of the smaller AAA/MANPAD threat.

Organizing something like that for DCS–with live “Bad Guys”–would be awesome!

Sorry, I can’t hear you over the fun I’m having doing a single-pass multi-target release in a highly contested air space.

Also real sim pilots know the litmus for masculinity is self lasing a Paveway you lofted over a terrain feature while inverted, recovering from said loft while enemy defenses attempt to engage you. At night. In weather.

If you can’t find one of those.

This is also a fairly decent hold over. It’s not 100% accurate to the Superbug, and the Superbug does not transfer 100% to the Legacy, but it’ll do for getting an idea of the sensor logic and flow.

Replace “Ginger Ale” with “CATOBAR”. A ramp is not a catapult @Maclean. Even the French and Brazilians have figured this out.
