Well it certainly eats up the miles and is very nice to fly, a bit twitchy on the wheels when taxiing but on the whole not nearly as difficult as the Mi8. I need to learn to get some rockets off the rails next.

And it works with CTLD

Its very nice, default pilots position is quite far back. I am running a server so cant get to gunners position. It was really rough when I first started it, fps nose diving and stutters. It seems more docile now the shaders have maybe filled themselves up

I’m about an hour from Carlisle so I can finally sit and watch the launch videos. I hope you guys have loads of fun with it and won’t mind me picking your brains because I’ll be 3 days behind. I’m being a little bit naughty and sleeping in the car to save some money on hotels so I’ll be up all night reading about it

Was watching for a bit from work. Was working along and glanced over and thought: wow, that is a fast taxi. Then I realized it was a rolling takeoff just before you lifted off.

Really wish I had left my PC on at home so I could have started the download.

The 30mm cannon is freaking deadly. 1 hit 1 kill for a soft target

JUST finished downloading the update, and now waiting to start the Hind download. Good times- hopefully I can join y’all in a few hours.

Also, I really kinda want to set up a Red Dawn-style mission on the Nevada map too, now that I think about it…

Aw yiss, your mission, should you choose to accept it, comrade, is to hunt down and destroy redneck terrorist that are running back to their camp after a failed attempt to rob a casino in Las Vegas. Follow them to their compound and lay merry waste to it.

Simple, fun!

Dang mate, tell your kid to stop watching pr0n for an hour or two!

Yes it is. Gorgeous cockpit. Reminds me of the MiG-21. Of course it does, they are roughly contemporaries. That 30mm is a monster. I haven’t figured out how to switch between rocket pods. Also, having sideslip on the machine is very bad for rocket accuracy!

Quick flight with the Squadron. It’s awesome, I love it

I jumped into the cockpit in VR, looked around, freeked out, and quickly left unnoticed :astonished:

The cockpit is spacious though. Once I manage to fire it up, take off and land, I might organize a party in there

Work of art :+1:

Here are my first 2 hours impressions.

Pilot Seat:
Coming from the Huey, the Hind feels very stable, very fast and basically wants to fly straight at all cost. Requires continued effort to turn. Let go of the controls and she just levels out and keeps going straight  This thing will be a ton of fun to zoom around at grass-top level.

Gorgeous cockpit with great views, but surprisingly limited visibility for landing. I haven’t really given this any thought until now, but the Hind is one of the few helicopters where you cannot view down to see where you are landing.

Had a look at the weapons. The gun is a blast but quite difficult to hit things beyond cal.50 range. ATGM with Petrovich works very well. I am not so sure about the UI and the control scheme though, but compared to the front seat it is at least rather simple and not so obtrusive.

Front Seat:
Tried to shoot some ATGM from the front seat for about half an hour. Petrovich as pilot is bloody awful. If you know how AI helicopters behave in DCS then you know what to expect, because that is exactly what you are getting here. Wobbling around all over the place and unable to make smooth turns. For the combat 180 turn which you can order after an attack, he basically stops mid air and just hangs around for a bit. He also got us crashed while trying to make a turn while slowing down.

The UI is also pretty awful. That HSI thing, which you basically need to have turned on all the time in order to control the pilot, sits right in your face in VR. ED loves their targeting pods, so they basically made the control scheme for Petrovich like you control a TGP. If you are like me and don’t like to play the HOTAS pianos (and this is especially why I looked forward to the Hind), then this will pretty confusing.

I know this is early access, but to get this AI multicrew thing up and running will still be a looong way for ED.

I am totally bias of course, but this made perfect sense to me, I had no part in the design of the interface, but the fact that it operates like system controls on other aircraft makes 100% sense to me, makes learning it a little easier as it’s not like its way outside the norm of what people coming from other modules might expect.
