Found the solution - change the trimmer mode to central position mode:
I set mine to central trimmer as well, but I still find it overcorrecting about 20% of the time. It feels like the setting sometimes reverts back to default, then returns to central trimmer multiple times mid-flight.
OMG…If I were an infantry man and saw this coming at me I think I’d just shoot myself…That’s a Powerful sight
Who where you flying with Chuck that looks mighty impressive
He makes it look so easy…Doesn’t He???
I noticed the same thing, and also definitely felt like I was fighting against the helicopter sometimes coming off a target run- at least twice I had the cyclic full right, and in cockpit it was deflected almost full left, when the trim point had been close to center. Not sure if it was an AP channel stepping in, or Petrovich grabbing his control out of panic.
Tested how much you can load up on the hind at almost 7000ft and still do a vertical take off and landing
Still need a lot of practice.
Tbh once your collective is set I tend to leave it set. Obviously for landing and takeoffs you need collective but I use it a lot more in the huey
As I suspected, the only real downside to the Hind isn’t the Hind itself, but the overly accurate ground unit gunners that have no suppression/self-preservation logic, and have LOS through trees and terrain.
Doing a pop-up run from behind a hill on an M113, he immediately opened fire as I crested the hill. The S-8 rockets have such a spread that no direct hits were scored at 1km, and the gunner didn’t care about all the explosions around him, as he peppered my underside while I was coming off target.
Since it’s not possible to stay outside of APC WEZ and hit anything with rockets, that leaves the ATGMs. Using Petrovich is incredibly easy, but his accuracy is about 50%. And you typically only carry four of them.
I’m not sure how the “Combat” part of DCS World will play out with the Hind unless missions revolve around attacking undefended or lightly defended area targets. Even then we will need splash damage lua scripts or “rocket in zone” triggers for the rockets to be effective.
The AI needs serious work in all areas you mention to make the Hind and other upcoming attack helos effective and fun to fly in combat. I have heard whispers that it might have been mentioned to ED
The Hind doesnt strike me as a pop-up and fire machine. To me it’s more like a slow Su25 and should be flown in pairs.
“I’m in! (Boom Boom) I’m out East. Your turn!” And so on. I think it would pair nicely with the Ka50, like pork and and cold chardonnay.
As I understand it you would scout the area first and build a mental picture and then do the attack run where you would unload as much as possible before breaking off.
Soviet doctrine was indeed to use them in a fashion that was very much akin to WW2 sturmovik tactics: as many as a whole regiments’ worth would form a large wheel, making successive runs. So a pair would be the bare minimum. Four or more is optimal, as it keeps the enemies’ head down with continuous attacks while the others retreat and line up their next runs.
Have you tried to pull it out and put it back in?
Sometimes PC components loose full contact when they are not used for a longer period.
After a long hiatus, the old Steel Beasts PC in the GHRVPK Leopard 1 training turret was starting, but it did not boot. I took out everything and put it back in and then it started.
It could also be worth trying to put the 1080 into another PC. Also check out if the input on the monitor is working. I have just killed the HDMI input on one of my screens. Swapping the HDMI/HDMI cable to a HDMI/DVI cable, the monitor now works on the same HDMI output.
I hope that it is salvageable. Good luck
While the Hind isn’t well suited for NATO style pop-up attacks from a hover, it would still have employed moving pop-up attacks in a high-threat environment. Just like the Su-25.
Generally you will be moving around the battlefield at 250-300 kph below tree-top height, pulling up to 100-ish meters to employ weapons.
I have conducted my first combat trials against classic Cold War era threats, here are some of my initial findings:
The AT-6 Shturm ATGM are very effective and will be your primary weapon. S-8 rockets and the 30 mm gun lack the range to make them viable in DCS against most things armed. You might make it to a point to shoot your weapons and even get a kill, but no lather than when pulling off target you will be hosed down by .50-cal or even 7.62 mm fire (the Leopard 2 tanks are especially bad offenders in this regard).
Now to the dedicated air defense systems:
USA/Israel:
Chaparral IR SAM: Will acquire you very quickly after popping up (visual detection with DCS AI spider senses) and almost certainly launch on you before you can complete an ATGM attack run. But can be easily defeated by running a long flare program during each attack. With 196 flares loaded you can cover 6 attacks (each program runs 30 seconds at 2 flares, 2 seconds interval, 16 repeats).
Vulcan AAA: Deadly in rocket/gun range, but can be easily outraged with ATGM.
West Germany:
Roland SAM: Does not have sufficiently fast reaction time to launch on you before you can complete an well executed ATGM attack run. Will kill you though if you waste time after popping-up.
Gepard AAA: Very quick to respond (no issues here, has a fast scanning search radar) and very good reach for a gun. Can be out-ranged with ATGM but you need to launch at long range.
UK:
Rapier SAM: Does not have sufficiently fast reaction time to launch on you before you can complete an well executed ATGM attack run. Will kill you though if you waste time after popping-up.
I was with a couple of friends on a private server.
Simshakers for aviator’s beta has updated to include the hind
To any of you who have managed to get Petrovich to fire a shot as gunner, how? I spent four hours last night trying to get him to fire on @mbot’s suggested targets above plus unarmed vehicles. Nothing. I could get the cross-hair thing to settle on the target area within meters of a good target. But he would never acknowledge the presence of targets nor would he engage when set to “Free Fire”. I’ve played through the tutorial a bunch of times and think I get it. However, I may be missing something because if I set up to fly from the gunner’s seat I can get the gyro “Ready” light but when I flip to “Observe” I can never get the “L4” light (L3 flashes but nothing more). And again no launch. So it seems that whether hot start or cold; me flying gunner or me staying in the pilot seat; the result is the same: Neither of us are able to launch a missile. Could it just be a Syria thing? (As that’s the map I created the mission with.)
