Gaaaaaaahhhhh I had some pretty good stages there, my handbrake training really was worth it.
But then I ruined it by some really embarrassing driving errors. Took a lot of penalty in the last stage and had to change a tire in stage 3.
So if you beat me by one minute and 30 seconds I know which two turns were the problem.
Still nice to drive in Argentina, I like all the hairpins.
I have to say that wasn’t as fun. Felt like (probably wasn’t) a lot of clipping issues where I’d feel I was clear of the corner but I’d snag something small and the whole car would swing. Not much room for error on those narrow turns.
Anyway, I’m in first, you can end the championship here
Looking at the specs I’m tempted (less weight and more power). I’ll do a recce run in each to get a feel for which suits my driving style before choosing though.
Ended up taking the Scooby after all. Just a bit pointier than the Evo. I like cars that don’t take much encouragement to get sideways; “twitchy” some would call it. I know you can get more stable platforms to hang the tail out just as much, but my style just doesn’t work with them.
Put in four stages so far. Got a good lead in Stage 1, then went off the hill very near the start of Stage 2. Looks like the exact same place @weaponz248 went off!
Looks like you managed to extract yourself a little quicker than I did and gained 5 seconds on me. Reversing didn’t work for me so I had to turn around on the side of the hill and drive back up, almost getting stuck bottomed out while coming back over the crest.
Rest of the stages were fairly clean, but did go over an edge again towards the end of Stage 3 or 4 (can’t remember which).
Argentina is a. . . frustrating place. The canyons are just so tight and hemmed in it feels like you’re barely moving and can’t get into a rhythm. A lot of times you can’t get going fast enough or it’s too narrow to use the car’s momentum to swing it around the tight corners. When it finally opened up on Stage 1 it was bumpy as all get out. Thankfully the open sections on the subsequent stages are much more flowing, but as soon as you hear a “1 left” or “2 right” you know you’re back into the tedium. The bridges in Stage 4 were especially nerve wracking.
Been tapping a lot of rocks with the tail on corner exits. Slid sideways into a rock face or two as well. Thankfully the impacts are such low speed that basically no damage has been done. Trying to reel in my enthusiasm a bit and it seems to be working.
Looking to tackle the last two stages tomorrow evening. Once I do, assuming/hoping no crashes, it’s going to be a nervous wait until Thursday to see where I end up.
I test drove the Lancer but it has its steering wheel on the wrong side for me. In tight spaces that makes me hit corners so in the end I went for the Subaru.
Looking at the times again it seems that the tire change in stage 4 really killed me. Otherwise my times - while not exactly stellar - look pretty decent.
I have to drive some more training stages in some of the cars.
Finally completed a rally in one piece. More or less. I decided to start early to get the green bars automatically
Didn’t help much, on first stage I blew a tire and had quite a rough time remembering the mercilessness of the Argentinian terrain. So for the better part of the rally I drove slowly due to engine/radiator/turbo being gone or overheating, due to previous crashes.
Thanks for the generous repairs between stages I could stay in the competition, though. Anyway, all good fun, looking forward to the stages on the weekend!
Lost count the number of times I used to do that with my wheel, one time it happened I went over on my chair as well and took half the desk with me. My wife had a few friends round at the time and they all came rushing upstairs thinking I’d killed myself.
She came out with the classic line, " If you think that’s bad wait until he ejects when he’s flying"
Anyways she bought me a Wheel Stand Pro for Christmas so those days are over thank goodness.
It’s hard to get any rhythm on this Argentina track isn’t it? I’ll be starting my attempt later tonight.
No matter how tightly it’s on my desk it always comes loose at least once. Luckily I have never fallen from my chair.
If you can keep the turbo spooled up I image you can get a decent rhythm going. It didn’t dawn on me to way late that was going on. I just thought I wasn’t actually pressing down the gas much.
I drove those hairpin stages with almost permanent second gear.
Since I fail to master the proper AWD drifting technique I just went for the handbrake. And yes I know that’s properly not super healthy for the differential. (Is that the correct english word? I mean the gear thingie that is between the main shaft and the rear wheels so the whole AWD stuff works.)
(racenet seems to be having its daily brainfart atm looks slow but ok now)
It’s in the R5 cars. Just setting it up in case anyone wants extra “practice” or if you finish the races here early and want more Starts at noon today!
Two stages done. I went with the Evo, I’d not driven either before this, but like the steering wheel on the proper side.
Stage 1 was going ok, but I wasn’t expecting the brutal nature of the track. I know you’d all said about the rocks, but these are ROCKS!
Hairpin after hairpin, I couldn’t get into a rhythm and got caught a couple of times broadside on the track. I then had to take a penalty. As the stage progressed I was longing for the finish and manged to get a couple of green sectors. Relieved to see the finish, I crossed the line, missed the 3 left and hit the rocks, damaging the radiator. I wiped the smile off the marshal’s face in typical fashion.
Stage 2. The only thing I had time to fix was the radiator, so went for a standard fix. The bodywork was a mess. Setting off more rock, then I lost it on a turn and plunged over the side. Another penalty and back on the trail. Fortunately I managed to get some flow through the remainder of the rocks, then lovely open turns. I somehow managed to pick up time on Roo, but can’t see the trend continuing.
Just requested to join as DachsDk.
I haven’t really touched the game since I bought it, so it’s most likely going to end up with a lot of bent and dented metal
