Interestingly TK was a lead programmer on Jane’s Longbow.

I would say Longbow was basically a Flaming Cliffs 3-level helo in a standalone world. Not full DCS, but much more accurately modeled than the survey sims like the others were.

Funny how he went to do survey and left the study behind.

Wags and TK Both did work in the Jane’s Combat Series…

Yeah, after Longbow 1 and its expansion TK did Longbow 2 and was a consultant on aerodynamics for Jane’s F-15, while he coded EAW. Wags only took part in Jane’s F/A-18.

Didn’t TK also work on MicroProse 1942 pacific air war?

I don’t think he did.

My bad, was the sequel, European Air War.

I loved playing that game.

Another mission in P-51B with 363rd Fighter Squadron from 357th Fighter Group. This time a bomber escort.

EAW was the last sim I spent a significant amount of time with the SP campaigns. In the 20 years since I would call what I do now “dabbling”.

Its campaign structure can be seen in later TK titles - Strike Fighters series.

Lots of good memories brought back by those videos.

Since I flew the Schwalbe in IL-2 BOB recently, wanted to check how it compared to EAW depiction.

Main thing I remember about the Me-262 in EAW was that no matter how much or little I fired them it seemed that the guns always jammed after their first use when I was flying it. Loved how you could outrun anything with it though.

Recently I stumbled upon this little gem (though I think @komemiute recommended this to me at some point?) - Tiny Combat Arena by Who485. It’s still in early development - you can check it out here yourself:

It’s aesthetic is clearly inspired by the mid 90’s flight sims. Though the gameplay is pretty simplistic at this stage, the flight and physics modelling is on par with A-10 Attack/Cuba! by Parsoft which is high praise.

It supports keyboard/mouse, gamepad and joystick controls. I struggled a bit with the gamepad (had a tailstrike during landing in the Fishbed), joystick is more precise though as you would expect.

I really look forward to upcoming features - developer shares his progress in his devblog on discord. It looks fantastic - upcoming AV-8B (V/STOL capable) with cockpit view, working HUD, instruments and Track IR support. You can see his latest progress on his YT channel: Why485 - YouTube

With the gameplay fleshed out this will be a dream come true for the retro flight simmer as myself.

Ok, this looks like a phenomenal title.
