The Mandalay looks beautiful

Has some Hammerhead vibe from Above & Beyond

With that squared belly underneath, and the fact they made it an exploration ship, it gives me Mandalorian vibes… and the name doesn’t help.

That does look very nice and Space Above & Beyond is one of my favorite most underrated sci-fi shows of all time!

I don’t know… I’ve kinda drifted away from Elite. Is this supposed to bring me back?

I’m waiting to see exactly how it changes. I didn’t get on with powerplay but I might consider it if it proves engaging. In the meantime my carrier is safely decommissioned

In my case I stopped playing ED when I did because after about 1,700 hours of game time I got my fill. However, if I find these new updates to be substantial enough then I might reinstall.

This could be interesting, though it looks like early days in the dev cycle:

Welcome @thargos! The clever naming of his website got me thinking about the name of the game. “Elite Dangerous”. Why? For two generations it has been among the, if not THE, most admired space game franchises of all time. But the name makes no sense. Is there something in the lore that explains it?

i think it comes from the original games ranking system, you started out harmless and ended up going through deadly, dangerous and finally Elite

OA seems somewhat more upbeat about ED at the moment then he has been for a couple of years or so:

Ahhh, right! Thanks. I feel pretty stupid now as I once knew that. You get old enough and you start to understand how Gandalf and Obi Wan could forget their own names.

Yes, I think that’s the reason behind the name. When translated literally into French, it actually sounds like a bit of a strange play on words.

Ooooh - looks like the Thargoids are heading for Sol. I guess this is the final chapter in the war:

Well the Mandalay looked cool enough so after many months I updated Elite, dusted off my long abandoned joy stick and loaded in… while I waited for the updates I built my ship in Coriolis. Plotted my 7 jump course to Jameson Station aaaaaaaaand no Mandalay to be found.

Apparently it can’t be bought in game, only with cash/ ARX. So I guess I will go back to ignoring Elite as it finds a way to make me not play and break a little bit more of my heart.
