Is anyone willing to dilly dally in Elite Dangerous today? Let’s say after 2024-12-19T17:30:00Z?

No real goal… I’m in Shinrarta Dezra and I could do just about anything. I have many different ships set up for everything, from Mining to Exploration, both multicrew or multi-player

Afrais not, sorry. The next chance I get to log in will probably be after Christmas now

It’s been a while. Sucking down the game at 20mbps. Let’s see how things are these days.

Edit: jeebus. My rig aint slow, but that thing takes forever to unpack and install!

Edit2: fokker’s been like this for hours now (with a couple cpu cores spiking 100% loads on and off) :

Tried all kind of things, Frontier launcher is broken. Sucking it down with steam now. See how that goes.

Edit: Ah, that did it. Was good to fly a Python again. Man that’s a ton of controls that need rebinding.

I just picked The Deluxe edition on the recent Steam sale…I got it as a casual game to play on a handheld Legion Go I bought to kinda replace my laptop

This looks a bit more than a casual time waster kind of game though….did I bite of more than I can chew??? :face_with_monocle:

Yeah, you can do it casually…but if you get sucked in no more causal.

But honestly its a great game but requires your full attention.

Easy to pick up and play for a few days and then put down for a month or so and come back to the exact way you left it.

Explorers, if you’re out in the black then it might be a good time to sprint back to the bubble for the exploration community goal taking place currently.

I was planning on being out for a while but this has shifted my plans.

Just saw that.

Time to pull Above and Beyond out of storage.

Was about to head in from the black anyway, looks like ill shift my destination

Launched Elite Dangerous last night after quite the hiatus…
Rusty, had to rebind all the controls but after 20 minutes muscle memory took charge and it was as if I never left.
Gosh I love this game…

Picked up my favorite ship of late, the Krait Mk. II - named “Binary Bard” after the nickname I gave to the old noisy modem- signed up the community goal and made my way to the system. Will look for uninhabited and/or unexplored systems.

The neighboring systems (on a 100LY radius) seems to be all explored already but for the community goal it makes no difference.

With a week to go still theres plenty of time for cashing in alot of dosh.

76 jumps to go to get to HIP 90578. Not sure how many planets I have but should be a good chunk of data.

I think only a few weeks on the Trailblazing patch shows up. Cant wait to see what grind fest that will be.

I leave tonight for a couple weeks so I’m currently booting up the laptop I take for travel to see if it can run ED decently enough… otherwise I’ll be sprinting there today with whatever I’ve got.

I’m around 200 jumps outside of the bubble, this CG is forcing my hand a bit to bring me back earlier than I’d wanted but I also can’t really turn down the credits.

On a somewhat related note, I think we’ll need a Mudspike colony. Any candidates in mind for the system?

I had been thinking about dusting off my space helmet again and heading out into the black.

I managed to engineer a couple of ships for various purposes.

Have there been any other changes/additions in the last, say, 12-18 months that I should be aware of?

I did a very little Thargoid swarm hunting, but hadn’t done any of the larger ships.

I might have to get back into it as well.

I just watched a couple of tutorials on the ‘detailed surface scanner’… that will give you some idea of how long it has been since I played.

What is the go to ship for exploration these days?

Absolutely!

  • Thargoids have been defeated. Head to one of the Titan wrecks and there’s plenty of valuable / useful stuff to collect. You may benefit from a caustic proof cargo rack.
  • Engineering buffed. Engineering requires far less grind as materials are more abundant and improvements require a fixed amount of mats.
  • New frame shift drives with Supercruise Overdrive (SCO) that gives a short duration burst of immense speed (multiple thousand times light speed). Especially useful for getting out of gravity wells quickly or evading interdiction.
  • New ships. 4 new ships introduced into the game covering the basic specialisations. They handle the SCO drives better than the older ships. The Mandalay is apparently the new meta for exploration with 100+LY range possible.
  • New powerplay. Apparently it’s much improved and actually fun to play. Actions in the bubble effect real changes to the look and feel of each system / starport and the services available.

I decommissioned my fleet carrier a few months ago as I wasn’t playing enough to cover the upkeep cost. However, if there is sufficient interest in a Mudspike carrier as a support vessel I could commission a new one? Thoughts?
