Elite Dangerous Thread

Have to say this is easily my favourite ship so far. Been playing since original beta, but never felt the need to “upgrade” above the Diamondback Explorer - though I am keen to try both the Vulture and Asp.

It does everything well, once upgraded to the decent stuff. Okay, it’s no combat ship, but it easily has the ability to get out of dodge - if it even gets into trouble in the first place.

Up to 6.55 million credits bonus

I’m at 180,000 Cr

Yeah…pretty proud. Harmless.

Up to the next bonus tier - but now I’m not only getting attempted interdictions every run, I’m also being attacked every time I drop out of supercruise in Abroin. Luckily, the Feds are always there to lend a hand, but I suffered a lot of damage, nevertheless.

I changed to a Keelback because of how quickly the Type 6 shields drop and hull damage is suffered. The thing is as manouvrable as a barge - even with all the upgrades I put on it.

So now I make less profit per run with the 16t less cargo of the Keelback (after upgrading cargo space where possible), but at least the bonus is coming. I put military grade hull armour on the Diamondback, but it’s very expensive for the Keelback (I guess cos it’s supposedly already higher grade - which is why I got it, after all). Once the community goal is over - tomorrow, I think - I will sell the Keelback anyway and move on with the DB.

Did Smiling Dog or one of the other troll, I mean Pirate groups start showing up?

Think of community goals as a deserted island. Think that the surrounding water s full of sharks, think those sharks know where you are going to be, those sharks are the pirates. And like flies to a fresh poo, they will come.

Well the attempted interdictions (none have succeeded so far) have got more numerous as the community goal moves on - I did expect it, but it started getting as bit irritating - and stupid, I mean, who attacks another ship right in front of the feds?

Anyway, funny story - I had a couple of hours in this morning with the Keelback - and it’s as bad as the Type 6 as far as agility is concerned - just a bit more ‘oomph’.

So I chopped it in for a Cobra III (might as well have kept the one I had to start with). Okay, I’ve lost another 8t capacity, but I’ve installed upgraded hull armour, an FSD that gets me to the supply system and station and back in a single jump (though it is an anarchy system) , and I’ve upgraded the thrusters and have all round multi-cannons - 3x gimballed and one medium fixed.

Since doing that I’ve not had a single attempted interdiction! And now, if they do - or have a go outside the station - I can give them something to think about on their way to the insurance buro!

oh btw - I got a friend request whilst on last night from a guy called Cmdr Conman, I think it was - said he had just arrived at Abroin. Was that any of you guys?

That griefing is why I do solo play for community goals.

Exactly…

I jumped on the cargo goal last night, moved several hundred tons with the old Type 6. My vulture should have arrived over night… might try a little combat if I got time tonight.

Gah, if I wasn’t halfway across the galaxy I might’ve been able to join you guys by Friday.

I’m in group play - on my Jack Jones

That was me. My Commander’s name is conram. I’ve reached the CG system with my ASP and completed transit with Type-7 and Fer-de-Lance.

When we chatted servers were very unstable. Half an hour later everything was fine but you were gone. Did some HiRes-Farming to get into 75% range for the bounty hunting goal.

“Cmdr Conman”!! - oh well, near enough! Thanks for that - haven’t laughed so much in a while.

Yeah, I had a look at the list of ships and their quotas and of course the majority were the big-capacity ships, though I think the Type 6 was the most numerous. I’ve been at it for hours a day the last 3 days and still only on 50%, but I don’t mind so much - I’m enjoying it far more in my Cobra than I was in the T6 and Keelback barges.

I was watching the 1997 Hungaroring F1 race on Sky TV (well, Now TV anyway) - when Damon Hill led most of the race in the Arrows only to be let down by a throttle sensor issue on the last lap. I left Elite for the last half hour of the race.

I’m about to go back on, though, and get back to grinding. Won’t be up late tonite, tho.

Conman would not be a bad name for a space smuggler, wouldn’t it?

For those trading CGs you can’t keep up with the big guys and their 600+ tons cargo holds.

I’d rather try to rank up in bounty hunting.

The bounty hunting goal is already completed, so …

But I really want to get up to the 75% mark. I’ve finished for tonight - it’s very humid and using the Rift is uncomfortable just now, but I switched back to a T6 and kitted it out for hauling 104 tons a time. I really dislike flying it, but I need to get the tonnage in. Not a single threat this evening.

I reckon two or three runs in the morning and I should have cracked it. The thing finishes in 19 hours.

Well crap… guess I’m gonna be space trucking if I get on…

I am obviously new at the game. Its really just a vehicle to appreciate VR. How do you know if you are playing around or against a human playerI’ve been playing online but I have no idea if I have ever seen anything other than AI. Even the chat seems repetitive or even canned. Not a dis mind you. I love the experience thus far.

If I recall on your sensor players show up as hollow squares, where AI are solid. Also it’s a game that really works well with VR. It’s nuts taking in the actual scale of those cockpits.

800t will get you in to the 50% tier for the hauling CG, at time of writing.

Welp, I managed to get 7+ million credits in rewards. Not bad for a little time bounty hunting.
