Elite Dangerous Thread

Had a very adventurous session today. I got back to Aulin and stored the ASPx, buying a Viper IV, as intended. I kitted out for robust defence, if not direct combat and went off to do various jobs.

One job giver sent me a messgae saying I was going to be hunted by some no-gooders and offering a bounty on every one I destroyed, so I got all psyched up for it, and decided I would give in to any interdictions and give em something to think about. But no - no interdiction attempts at all. I was disappointed, so I decided to take on a number of jobs involving killing ships in the local combat zone.

Bear in mind, I have never had any combat in E:D since I bought this HOTAS. Cut a short story even shorter and one insurance claim later, I am abandoning the 4 “massacre the expert AI baddies” jobs! This was why I bought the Viper - check things out and see how I do, with a relatively low insurance cost.
Won’t be entering any more comabt zones as long as I have this X-56, I can tell you. Though bounty hunting might be on.

Anyway, I had several opportunities to practise fuel scooping and I seem to do well at that, so that’s another box ticked. Just got to try neutron-jumping now, then I’ll feel ready for the Colonia trip.

Oh guys, I forgot - I wanted to buy a field maintenance unit, but there were two, and I couldn’t tell the difference. They had different grades and one was a lot more expensive than the other. That one would have required more power than I can provide, so it wouldn’t have been sutable, anyway - but how do I decide which unit to buy otherwise?

Yah but its a money maker, I wish I would have sent for my DiamondBack because I want the jump range, and you don’t need to haul a lot on this one.

you are right about not needing much …I killed 1 elite ranked clipper and got 85k and it took me into the first rank of the rewards :slightly_smiling_face:

the cargo goal is now at tier 7 only one stage to go … the bounty hunting is at tier 4 … i think the cargo will finish today

Cargo goal will definitely finish today. While gathering items for the CG I ran into my first asteroid base, gotta go back and explore when this is over.

This game still blows me away sometimes

It blows me away too. But GAWD! what a grind! I’ve made 30 jumps to get to Harma. I wanted to go straight to bed but was afraid that the community would reach their goal overnight so I bagged a wanted sindwinder and brought in the bounty before calling it a night.

I did a looong trip yesterday to see Felicity Overseer to hopefully get my AspX upgraded. It took a long time to get there, although scanning along the way took up quite a bit.

I’m still constantly amazed that in 3303 we still have to sit for silly amounts of time in supercruise. The oft recited term “Supercruise Simulator” is very accurate imo. At the end of the day, it is a game, after all, and spending the majority of the time watching a timer couting down is disappointing, especially in VR, as it’s more difficult to do other things at the same time. Still, I’m sure the true Nerds find it fascinating… :grimacing:

nothing fills me with more dread than when you see a station distance like 40k (or more) light seconds

I feel your pain palpably, the grind is why I stopped playing last time, and even now I’m starting to feel it again. For a game that has so much, it just has no soul… That being said… the bounty hunting CG is just about to cross tier 7 this morning so plenty of time today to get some credits. A million turned in should get you over 75%.

I turned in just over 4 million and it got me to the 50% area … so was looking at about a 9 million payday… I know what you mean about the no soul … but the couple of times I have done MP (player wings) it has been far better

Yes - the most fun I had in this game was during the beta phase when I was with a group of Brits and 1 American, flying under the Mobius banner, doing bounty hunting every evening at the Rakapila beacon. I uploaded a video of my first kill, called “Sprogs in Space” - have to see if it’s still around.

One phrase that I remember, that had me in stitches was when one guy said “I’m trackin MacCracken!”

I remember winging up with @fearlessfrog, @near_blind and @EinsteinEP like the first time I had ever flown, we met up on a planet to do something… idk there was explosions, and SRV’s jumping over things (and flipping… and exploding) near_blind was trying to bounty hunt but kept having to rescue me in my completely untouched Sidewinder because I didn’t understand that Fed Dropships and Imp Clippers were big ships and I should fire on them just because they’re wanted. It really was fun and made the game come alive.

Is there a night that most of us or some of us are available to wing up? Kinda like some of the other week night meet ups we have? Could help reduce the grind and make a few credits too lol

I’d be down but would need to swap it for another night likely. Who knows.

No problem for me - shame we can’t teleport or use a TARDIS to get to a distant system just for a sesh! Leave a Viper in, say Chigas (think I got that right) and then jump to that ship, as opposed to having the ship brought to me, then after a good sesh, jump back to my exploring.

I’m currently in this system “Chigas” or similar - I’ll confirm it later - to see this Felicity Farseer (not Overseer as I previously said) engineer woman and it’s got to be the best system I’ve come across yet. It is very big, and takes quite a while to get from one end to the other, but it’s got loads of planets, many of them with good resourcses and many with rings, lots of punch-up sites etc etc. Downside is it won’t be too suitable for large ships - have only seen outposts and planetary sites so far.

I’ve never seen so much in a single system. When I’ve finished exploring, I’m going to base myself here.

Okay - had a quick look - it’s called Chagin:

Haven’t explored everything yet, either.

are there any systems near to that can handle large ships ? also is that the engineer that does the engine mods

On Inara.cz you can find all the info’s to satiate your engineering needs. :stuck_out_tongue:

She’s an exploration engineer - I am still searching for the station she is based at, must be one of the furthest out.

The station is called Farseer - and I think it is an outpost, so up to medium pads only. I got an invitation from ‘her’ when I was out scanning systems not far from the bubble.
