Oh man. I took a little break sometime in March, went back to work and next thing I know I haven’t fired up E:D in months and months.
It also looks like a lot of what I learned in my stint back in Feb was committed to short term memory - I’m a complete newbie again!
I think the last thing I was doing was fitting out my new ship, so I think I’ll get onto that and go re-learn the void opal thing for a bit after that.
It’s interesting - the top prices are the same but last night the closest station to buy at that range was 88 LYs away, a bit of jumping to do. Maybe it always was like that but they may have tweaked the number of top buying stations. I could be imagining things.
Finished the trip, slowly coming back counterclockwise as close to the rim as I can stand (and successfully plan jumps for). Only mapping if there are planets worth lots of money, so likely not making as much as I could be, but I’d like to be able to afford a Cutter or something like that when I get back. Or finish outfitting my Conda. After I figure out what I want to do with the thing.
Nice! I’m thinking of an exploration-fitted little boat at some point. It’s nice to farm a little now that I’m all set up (375m or so after the weekend and a farming-kit Python) but I don’t think I’m really making the most of E:D if I’m just farming around in the bubble. Maybe I’ll do a @Gunnyhighway and farm up to $1b and then head off
I have started watching some exploring guides to get at least an inkling of what ship to set up and so forth…I don’t know if I want to go away quite for months and months, but we will see.
Looks like the consensus is that the Diamondback Explorer, Asp Explorer and the Krait Phantom are the preferred exploration ships…plus the Anaconda but apparently the Anaconda is a slug in supercruise.
I was planning to write a series of mini AAR posts for the second half of the DW2 expedition, however Real Life ™ got in the way and I barely had time to finish the trip. I’m still on my way back to the right side of the galaxy at the moment (currently about 9 KLy’s from Sag A* and Explorer’s Anchorage) and I feel like it’s a good time to share some highlights of the trip. There’s quite a few pictures so I’ve hidden them to avoid spam for those with limited bandwidth. Enjoy …

Goodbye Explorer’s Anchorage, we won’t be back for 6 months or more:
Hello all. I am toying with ED to check out how things look with my new Rift S. Answer: pretty darn good. In keeping with my “Cut the Cords, Man!” spirit, I would like to fly with the controllers. Not the thumbsticks on the controllers, but flying by grabbing the in-game stick as one does in VTOL VR. I thought I saw that this ability had come with a recent update. But a search has come of flat. So maybe I dreamed that up.
I;ve seen mentions here and there in the Reddit or forums, but I have no clue how one goes about operating the various subcontrols, etc. Maybe something with one of the Voiceattack profile packs?
I am now only 3000 LYs from Explorer’s Anchorage and the end of a 6 month, 80000 LY round trip to the end of nowhere and back. I’m looking forward to repairing my power plant (which is at less than 60% health) and getting rid of the power failures that have been getting more common over the last few weeks.
If you take an Auto Field Maintainence Unit, you can repair everything except your Hull, the power plant, and the AFMU itself. If you take two AFMUs they can each repair the other. If you take a Repair Limpet Controller you can repair your Hull. So basically, with two AFMUs and a Repair Limpet Controller your endurance is basically determined by the power plant. I think this will only take damage if you emergency drop from supercruise (e.g… because you got too close to a star), overheat, or do something truly stupid like hit the ground on a high G world at speed (I’m guilty of multiple counts of this on this trip )
