Falcon BMS Discussion

I personally would not be happy using anything lower than a 2080ti, but officially, it appears that Microsoft is stating a 1080.

That’s what I figured, if it happens

I’m picking up what you’re laying down…

What a time to be alive!

Yes, I am looking forward to that!

Well, it is more than that though. Ground handling, for instance.

So, as a newcomer to BMS with a fair amount of time in the DCS Viper…

The BMS Block 50 (all I’ve used) flight model feels…less alive? I can’t exactly put my finger on it. The numbers seem to be where I expect them for performance and the jet does what I ask it…just in a less vivacious way?

Perhaps it’s the sound modeling at high AoA? IMO DCS models that sound very well and it’s incredibly communicative through haptic feedback.

Frankly speaking, I’m not fan of Alternate Launcher based on our experience from past.
In previous BMS versions 4.32 - 4.36 it was just alternative, not mandatory to use. Well, I mean fact that its pushed as default option. Obviously something is wrong if setup which normally works without any problem doesn’t work nowadays.

BTW I know that you wrote some launcher for DCS, so I understand your point.

My old friend, creator of 3D cockpit in time of Super Pack 3/4, etc. is recommended to you who has VR set do following:

Falcon BMS User.cfg:
set g_bEnvironmentMapping 1
set g_bWaterEnvironmentMapping 0
set g_bShadowMapping 1
set g_bUseHeatHazeShader 0

If you don’t have 2D cursor in cockpit in 2D mode then you need to setup:
set g_sPriorityFixes “all PFIX_4K_TEXT_AND_CURSOR_USER_DEFINE_AND_APPLY_DPI”

Wow, your launcher got quite the facelift since the last time I’ve used it. Great job!
Also, +27.000hrs of flight time?! :hushed:

Looking damn good! It’s free utility? I will look on it closer when buy my first VR set. Unfortunately many of us are facing problem with alternate launcher in BMS 4.37. I think that decision to use it as default option wasn’t the best.

That’s the preview image of the new launcher coming Q1 23,
That’s 10 years or so worth of stats.

It’s Q1 23 already!

What @schurem said!

Seriously, that looks interesting!
Could you elaborate a bit in the new features?

BTW since Falcon BMS 4.36 there’s implemented one very interesting feature what I heard from my teammate.
You know those unrealistic dogfights in DCS where every virtual pilot is using pernametly afterburner (like for example: Slide) and pull the control lever as much as possible despite of redout or blackout effect without any problem. Simply no physical limitation like in reality.

That’s not possible in BMS anymore. You must release the control lever otherwise you will not able to do G in dogfight if I understand him well. So, no longer unrealistic dogfight with afterburner pernamently on until lack of fuel.

4 deaths? 4?! :open_mouth:

Do you have a link? I can’t find it.

This made me chuckle. I know you didnt mean it like that, but seriously. If @SkateZilla hadn’t made this launcher i seriously wonder whether i would still be playing dcs. The ease and utility of updates and repairs is unmatched

I can’t find it either. It was either in General Discussion or Technical Support, the only two rooms I’ve visited since 4.37 came out. Honestly, the way January is going, I might have dreamt it.

That matches up with my experience as a long time BMS user and day one DCS: Viper user.

I think you’re right - it’s mainly the wind noise when you’re flying the jet normally. But the flight model does seem more damped in BMS, and although it has come a long way since original Falcon4, I still think the behaviour near the limits (e.g. high-g turn, unload and full deflection roll) just feels more alive in DCS than BMS.

All that said, both flight models are more than good enough for a combat flight sim. I remember Falcon 3 with the special flight model you could use if your computer had the maths co-processor… but it didn’t work at low speeds so there was a changeover point between the normal flight model and the advanced flight model that I always seemed to bounce back and forth over when dogfighting MiGs in that game :joy:
