Game Deals & Book thread

Thanks for the tip, but as much I love train sims, as much I’m not big fan of train modelling, and sadly that game/sim is more for train modeling. I prefer in cab simulation and continuous real routes. But I agree, its gorgeous and i pretty like much the visuals of that sim.
I also have Derail Valey that infact I love it and its the only trainsim were you have dynamic tasks!!! Also strongly recommended.

When you say TS original, when you mean? DTG TS or MS TS ? because the progress story was:
MSTS - Kuju Railworks - DTG TS - DTG TSxx (xx is versions and years). Also MSTS later, and made by community, drifted to OpenRails (that runs MSTS contents and supports multiplayer and some new features).
Ok, if you have the old MSTS, ofc you should update, much better visuals and 3D cabs. If you have already a TSxx and upgrade or not to the modern TSxx is more about contents, the super last version (21) they improved slightly the light effects (a bit less cartonish) DTG TS evolution are super slow and mainly not noticeable, infact their big upgrade is more having a bundle of already existed routes more cheaper than buy them individualy. Only the last version had, as mentioned, added something that you say, ok, i see some few improves.
If you really likes train sims i strongly recommend you the TS21 specially in sale.
Also, i recommend you other train sims depending on your personal tastes and train sim expectations.
Before i mentioned my steam nick, try to catch me there for live chat and i can recommend which one fits better your tastes or go more indeep details about each one. If you REALLY like train sims, get them all, if not much, then depends of your tastes, not exist one train sim that full replace others. All of them you can easily get them, except the Railfan 1+2 that is better you not see videos on yt to not be poisoned and then suffer to not have it (even on second hand is super costy (Thanks God i got them in the times were they were cheap and accessible)

Also an important note, the TSW is pretty beautiful when you see many screenshots and some few videos and as mentioned it includes many unique features, but as you know, manytimes the visuals is not all the immersion. For example if you have a photo realistic gorgeous flight sim were the flight model is like of a 737 fly like a x-wing and you see a godzilla on NYC your immersion die fast comparing with other sim not so much pretty but were you see not so weird things.
many times the imersion and feeling of realism is not only the global experience but the lack of red dots in the white sheet… Remember when we were more young how we felt excited and feel real flight sims like msfs 3 or 4? it was ugly in modern standards but it was all right to the global situation. So the TSW 2 looks amazing, but when you with the graphics everything in ULTRA and MAX settings, you have a abrupt LOD (level of detail) decay in few meters in front of your screen (specially in a trainsim were you focus in the center of the screen and all the time you see the tracks in motion, that horizontal like were you abruptely see good detail, vs bad detail its a completely immersion killer whatever you see the visuals in TSW2 screens. That horizontal line is always there giving you a ugly popup effects on details of all objects that are after or behind that line. Really!!! I feel much.much more imersive and realistic feeling of being in a real train in Zusi 3 with all features including what matters in visuals (tracks, signals, catenary, lines, etc) than in the supposed gorgeous TSW2 with their bad LOD and blured power lines

I had some wallet credit left over from Christmas so I got some new games in the sale
Doom 64 (to complete my doom collection)
Call of cthulu (to play with the wife)
DOOM Eternal ancient gods (yay)
Beyond a steel sky (I am so so excited to play this as the original is in my top 5 games of all time)

I was 2 quid short of getting Il2 BOS as well so I’ll wait till the next sale for that.

Thank you for a great breakdown. So I had purchased TS many years ago (the orignal, I don’t recall if it was Dovetail or another company who produced it). I didn’t realize that it has continued to update (I hadn’t installed it on my new laptop), and is now TS 2021. So I guess I will have a chance to check it out for free!

Also thanks for the list of trainsims, several of them I wasn’t familiar with. Run 8 has been on my to get list for a long time, and ZDS seems quite interesting as well (I like complex sims). I accidentally stumbled onto Diesel Railcar Simulator due to this thread, so thank you

I’m glad that i could help!
In terms of complexity the kings are:

  • Run8 - for USA cargo
  • ZDS - for electric locos
  • TS21 (with JT advanced series steam locos) - for steam locos
  • Zusi 3 - for complex signaling and speed control and auxiliary systems (including the complex MFD’s on the german locos were you can put in a second pc or screen (google search for ZusiDisplay, it simulate multiple MFDs and screens, some strongly complex to deal)!

That is my top 4 (randomly sorted)

My apologies if this has already been posted, but check this out:

Yup, I’ve been on the fence for a while but I think I’m going to get it.
There’s a strong modding community which is definitely a plus for me
