CMANO - one of those games/sims I think I’d like…if it were one of those games that I played a lot of. Sort of like the War Game series…I’m just not playing them enough to get good at them, and CMANO would just make me feel stupid. (Or more correctly - show how stupid I am…)

You sent P-3s against Su-27s?? Again?? LOL…

This one comes along quite frequently…but worth reposting… The Classic Naval Combat Pack consisting of 688(I) Hunter-Killer, Fleet Command, and Sub Command bundled on Steam for $3.99

I’ve spent SOOO many hours on 688 and Sub Command. I have Fleet Command, but never really got into it like I did my other Janes games.

Arma 3 and DLC on sale…

Guess I’m gonna go ahead and get the Marksman and Apex DLC…(Apex in June I guess…it looks awesome…)

This is a pretty good deal. It’d be even better if there was an Arma 3 Mudspike Event planned in the near future.

Hmm…who is our resident Arma expert? I’d play…but I’d be the worst to organize it.

Thank goodness. I can barely find my arma from my elbowa when it comes to setting up MP missions. :frog:

Cool…so are we thinking an event with the new DLC or just A3 with free mods or vanilla A3?

You don’t really need the DLC. There’s plenty of weapons included in the base game and through mods that you won’t really need any weapons from the marksman pack. Not to mention that all weapons in that DLC pack are quite heavy, and their ammo is heavy too. So they are typically not favored for operations. You can still be a passenger in the DLC helicopters without any issues. Just the pilot needs to own it.

As for the apex expansion DLC. That stuff aint out yet. I don’t know if I will buy it yet. As good as ARMA is, I hated the near future fantasy crap vehicles and weapons, and the fact that a lot of stuff (HMG’s, mortars, UAV’s) is just reskinned from one faction to another. I’m gonna have to see first what they make before I buy something.

The modpack discussed was this plus the fabulous RHS mod. That would give a solid foundation of contemporary weapons, maps, and a wide away of units to shoot at so it’s not just Greeks, bug-eyed space Persians and Russians. The lovely thing about Arma 3 workshop integration is all of those can be installed with the click of a mouse.

Looks good to me. Only thing I’m wondering if we should not omit the terrain mods and use the default terrain? The two mods contribute nearly 6GB to the package. That might be a showstopper for late signups or people with a limited dataplan.

Also wondering if you want to use the comms the way we set them up for the fly-in or use the excellent TFAR mod?

I’m in…but i will play the devils advocate.

I don’t mind buying the next dlc, however…I would prefer if mods are going to be used that those that know how to install them are kind enough to provide easy instructions for thicko’s like myself (for mods that require extra install work).

I have encountered lots of problems and lengthy troubleshooting to try and sync with others.

All in time, there will be an announcement. The only three “complicated” ones are RHS, one minor ACE thing, and a minor TFAR thing. Everything else will be as simple as subscribing to that link and activating the mods in the launcher once they finish downloading.

@Sryan. TFAR will almost certainly be used unless someone has an extremely convincing argument for why it shouldn’t. I generally prefer having the maps as they offer a greater amount of creative freedom as a mission maker. For the initial even I’m fine forgoing them, but if it becomes a more regular thing I’m going to include them. Altis is a fine map, definitely BI’s finest so far, but after a while it gets repetitive.

completely agree. Altis features some nice terrain, with practicly all buildings enterable and many of them destroyable. But after a few missions you get the feeling you’ve seen most of it with pretty much every village and city looking and feeling the same.

I’m willing to write/create a video about the basic “need to know” stuff about the mods. From setting up TFAR to how it works, and some basics about par example ACE like working the medical system, working the rocket launchers and adjusting for windage (The wet finger in the air technique, I won’t go into details about the Kestrel windage meter). Similair to my comms guide for the last fly-in.

I do have some questions. Will you use the ACE medical system and if so, the easy or the complicated system? I think the complicated system would require some training for most people. Also are you planning on including any assets? I think ARMA really shines when you have some combined arms going on. Some of the finest moments I expierenced have been either being infantry or a crewman when a tank or IFV works together with infantry working in urban terrain. Or when a JTAC coordinates attacks with air assets. However it is hard to get the balance right. Either having the infantry doing bodycounts on what the assets have killed, or the infantry not being able to complete the mission when assets are lost. Not to mention with this being a flight sim forum I think many people would gravitate towards having a role in the assets.

Maybe it’s time to make a topic and think about a date?

Take on Helicopters is 80% off! Now, in itself the simulation is not really worth having anymore. The quality of the flight models cannot compete with those found on the Mi-8, UH-1 and now on the SA342 (although ToH does not offer a helicopter with a comparable role anyway). However, ToH becomes interesting when you combine it with the following DLC.

With this you can fulfill a life-long dream of flying a tandem-seat attack helicopter! While the FM is again, not capable of competing with DCS, however there are some unique things about it that sets it apart from DCS modules. The most prominent feature are its large weapon holding wings. These wings destroy a lot of lift in a hover, but can provide up to 30% of the total lift during high speed forward flight. This supports its doctrine of firing on the move, leaving the long range tank sniping job to it’s younger brother, the Mi-28 Havoc, in the real world. Despite that the Hind still has the capability to carry the Ataka-V AT-9 Spiral-II anti-missile. This sets the FM apart from things you’re used to in DCS.

There are 3 playable variants:

  • Mi-24V features a rotatable barbette turret holding a Yak-B 12.7mm gattling gun capable of approximatly 5000 rounds per minute.
  • Mi24P features a large fixed double barreled Gsh30-2K (similair to the Su-25 gun).
  • The SuperHind is a technological abomination looking thing. Features night attack capability and a 20mm nose mounted gun.

some Pro’s:

some cons and things that are otherwise ‘meh’.

  • FM not up to par with products we are used to.
  • Features a pseudo-dynamic campaign. However it does not capitalize on the Hinds multi-role capability ( transport up to 8 troops to the battlefield, act as a flying BMP to support troops). It instead features mostly only combat missions.
  • ARMA engine doesn’t always run that great, despite aged engine and modern hardware on our side.
  • 19.5GB
  • A lot of music… Even when flying, turn that off.
  • no real radar guided threats. Not a decent simulation of any radar
  • MAWS (Missile Approach Warning System) is ‘too good’

I’d say it’s worth it for €3,70 in order to kill a few hours. If you’re feeling generous you can go to steam and buy the ‘complete edition’ for €4,00 wich features… nothing extra. If you like you can also buy the ARMA II complete edition for another €4,00 and import the Takistan (desert) and Chernarus (Eastern European-esque) maps into ToH. I also think you can import some ToH functions into ARMA III.
