YES! You can buy stuff on steam and activate them on the standalone without as much as having DCS installed on steam. The other way around is what does not work. You can’t buy them on the ED store and activate them on steam. There are plenty of warnings on the DCS store for that.
Good choice! Do you have a gamepad or anything like that? Also, manually shifting works great! but you can leave it on auto-shift if you prefer it that way.
I have a gamepad (X-Box controller) and a Momo - gotta decide if I want to go through the hassle of hooking that up…LOL…I probably should to get the full experience out of it…
I played with keyboard, and that works fine for the front wheel driven cars like the mini, but I did grab my Fanatec wheel for the proper RWD experience
I can recommend using the wheel for the fronts too, it’s just so much fun. Especially when it also supports VR!
sssh, don’t tell anyone i know this, but Farming Simulator 17 is actually quite good and a big improvement over 15, not that i’ve ever played either… nope not once…
So tempting… Although my simming time is already spread thin across DCS:M-2000C, DCS:Mi-8, DCS:FW-190D9, DCS:Bf109K-4, DCS F-15 Red Flag, etc, plus the recent addition of X-Plane 11, which comes with a plethora of great aircraft.
There’s one reason to spread my simming time even thinner though: I could play together with @CMDR_Fungerus in E:D

the issue I have is grinding, it’s something I hate w/ newer games, doing the same thing over and over again for hours and days on end to buy one simple ship item etc.
Honestly the grind in Elite is as heavy as you make it.
Best way to live this game is actually do it as a RPG.
Imagine you are your Commander. Be there- don’t push for millions of creds. wnjoy every trip. Marvel at the sights, taste every landing…
