IMO, you need a different kind of PC. You need a entertainment PC. I just dont understand why you cant keep your music off of C drive. i.e. FRAPS is installed in C but anything I record on FRAPS goes to a storage drive… I hope I am being clear.
Im on 20H2 !!! Yay!!!
Well Like I was saying for ease of installing windows it would have been better to just keep those folders on the main drive. I did move everything to the 2nd drive this time.
I just have a feeling that when I goto reinstall Windows and want too move those folders back to the D drive Windows is going to tell me there already is a folder named that and it will not let me move it back to the 2nd drive…
I had this issue with moving OneDrive and had to reinstall it anyway after I moved it back.
I know nothing about One Drive. There must be a way to download your music straight to D and not C. Perhaps One Drive smart people can help u w that.
Been there done that…
Already covered:
Well that is OK Maico I know how to move onedrive and such it is just when I did move it too the 2nd drive all my shortcuts from desktop no longer where working and I have several of thos would need to be relocated…
Plus when I moved the Temp drive I figured maybe that was not a good I dea and when I moved them back to C: is when my PC really went wonky…
I then reinstalled Windows and all back on the 1TB drive and I am currently using the D: Drive as my swap file drive only…
I am going to have to figure out what happened last night but I think it was because of messing with the Temp folders I screwed something up bad…
next time I try this I am getting another SSD maybe a 2TB drive and use this 1TB for Windows ONLY and move everything too the 2TB Drive and see how that goes…
The combination of not having enough room leftover for Windows made the PC sluggish… so getting a bigger drive I feel will help me with that as I really would just like to keep One Drive in the default location… Plus my other Programs I can put on the D: drive. it is a few extra steps in installing to another drive but I am wondering if it is really worth to install ALL my other programs on the D: drive worth it,.
I can easily put the games there but it messes with some of the 3rd party programs I have for certain games I use… So not sure this is all worth the hassle in the long term of it…
Dude, I’m so sorry about your troubles. I would be mad as heck. Just take it easy and try to figure this out. I don’t save music(im on spotify) or movies(Amazon, netfix) so I know nothing about this.
This mount came in the mail from Amazon. Its Glotrends M.2 to PCIE mount. Included a heatsink. It looks neat.
Well I was just looking at some 2TB SSD’s and they right now are about 200USD… AS bit spendy but they are even more then thast as Newegg is having a sale…
I am unsure if I will go the 2 TB Router maybe just get a 500GB and use the 1TB for my games… A friend of mine said it should help having 2 drives like most of you said here…
Definetely going to try this again after I get another SSD… but hopefully I will have more then enough space for what I want to do…
No Troubles Maico just some teething issues will get past them and retry this method…
OK I bought an new 1 TB Samsung Evo SSD and plan on getting this working this time… I was wondering tho about my Addon Soundcard which is a Creative Sound Blaster Z, should I put that installation on the 2nd drive or leave it on the C: Drive main drive?
Other then that I think I will put most other Programs like CPU-Z and such on the main drive. I will try and look at the guide a few posts up but what would be the best config and setup with 3 Drives…
Anything that runs my hardware I leave on C drive. That is how i do it. Any program that says I have to download to C and only C… I get rid of it. Good luck @The_Neplilim
So will putting Music on c: drive be a problem besides taking up sapce on the SSD? and by getting rid of do you mean omit it completely or move it to D: drive?
Thank you @Maico
I’m confused now. Why are you still putting music on C? I thoght the whole idea of a new drive was to separate music and games. Isolate Win so it is on its own drive.
I mean getting rid of it as in find another program that is more flexible. Your storage problem comes down to this (correct me if I am wrong) One Drive wants to download all your music to C. You should have a drive where you keep your music, a drive for Windows that is separate. If you have to put Music and games in the same drive, I would separate them in folders i.e. Music folder and GAMES folder.
Well yes that is why I bought the new drive but I am trying to determine what is so bad about putting music and other files on c: drive with Windows besides taking up space.
Oh! I see. Well this line of questioning began when we were talking about running Windows on a 260 GB M.2. They will run windows lightning fast. I have the idea that isolating the Windows install from your games is always a good thing. Keeping your Win install separate is also good when you need to do a re-install of Windows. Just reload windows and my games are pretty much intact. As far as media is concerned, I just don’t want to be moving that many files, downloading and uploading from the same drive I have Windows on. Call it personal preference or what you like. I have done it like this and find my games to run great. If you have windows and say music or movies in the same drive, you could fill up the drive and make windows sluggish, unable to update or even crash.
OK I was bored and I wanted to see how much would be on C: if I moved all my other programs and folders to D:
Well currently I am using 43GB on C:, I had put the minimal on that drive and moved everything I could to D: which is filling up quick…
I wanted to test something and I have another Samsung SSD on the way and I am wondering if I should have bought it… seeing how it is working pretty good now… maybe I should have bought another 500 or 240GB SSD…
I would use that for the swap file right now It looks like this will work and another smaller drive would have been more practical now that I moved mostly everything to D:…
Well I am going to see if I can cancle my order and get a smaller drive… thnx everybody for the help so far so good…
Yay! You’re figuring it out. I’m glad bro.
Well I was unable to cancel my order of the 1TB SSD. I could send it back but it would really not be worth it at this point as I would probally be charged a restocking fee…
I am trying to determine the best course of action here, should I put the 2 1TB SSD’s in a RAID 0 configuration or keep it as I currently have and use the 1TB for more games or seperate the regular programs and games too 2 different drives and just keep my 240GB for Windows?
I could use some more space for a few more games I have that I guess I could play more but I was hoping to keep the swap file on a seperate SSD…
Do you guys have any ideas on what too do here with 2 - 1TB SSD and 1 240GB SSD so 3 drives in all. I do have a raptor drive I could probqally use for my music drive and such so that would be 1 240GB for Windows 2 -1TB SSD’s for Games and the raptor drive for music and one drive? I could just put the swap file on the 1TB SSD that has the least on it…
