Games we are playing

I downloaded the pre-alpha demo. Not bad. Graphics remind me of SB:PE, obviously limited vehicle set and platforms compared to SB. There’s basically an external view, GPS, and if so equipped alternate sight. Where it really shines right now is the shot analysis after the battle, which has a nifty x-ray mode, as well as showing spalling trajectories. Quite fun to play with. Overall looks to be shaping up nicely, and if they add some graphical touches they will have a solid product.

Sadly I am mostly familiar with this due to it’s manual being like 400 pages, unless i’m thinking of a different game.

I’m getting back all the memories of that other forum’s Pixeltruppen and Bombsgedroppen!
Who did write that?

Deus ex? Fun times.

Had some children and sleep (lack of) related issues this weekend so I thought i would attempt to play through Metal Gear Solid 5 the phantom pain.

I think the series is overall one of my all time (if not top) favourites. Snake Eater being such a glorious game I would do anything for a remaster. 4 I played through with my wife and it was her introduction to the series. I loved it. She didnt have a clue what was happening.

5… I just couldn’t wrap my head around the open world aspect. It just didnt seem to work. I was gutted and left it at that. Till this weekend.

It is amazing. I must of missed something or not done something correctly before as I am loving it now. I got a sniper rifle constructed early on and that changed the whole dynamic for me. I’m gutted I had to go to work today. Desperate to play through it now…

I’ve expanded my colony a bit, 12 more colonists upped the population to 24, with another 12 currently in transit. Trying to balance out the resource consumption vs. output, which is not always simple.

So many memories!!! I’m one of the few people who really liked the sequel “invisible war” as well.

Hindsight is interesting. I played IW when it came out and other than the tiny map size making loading a constant companion, I didn’t really feel it was too inferior either.
I played the original a few more times over the last 20 years and once I got past the graphics I found it still enjoyable.

I tried to play IW again a couple of years ago and I couldn’t. I tried, for like 3 hours, and then finally gave up. While the first time around the graphics were at least current, now they’re poor. The story and characters failed to grab me at all, and the combat was weak.

It remains one of the few FPS games I’ve owned in 30 years that I’ve only played through once. Usually if I play one through one time I’ll play it again multiple times. The Thief series, for instance. I’ve liked every one of those games. I even replayed the original within the last 3 or so years and enjoyed it.

To be honest, I first played IW on the X Box. It worked really well as a console title. I’ve played through it back to back on PC with the original Deus Ex and its weaknesses really show as you said.
I did enjoy the story however. It was neat

This was really the problem IW had; Deus Ex was made as a PC title with the same potential capabilities, but IW was made for the then-growing powerful console era and the limitations of such. It was difficult to match people’s expectations and I don’t think there was anything they could’ve done to top the first one without an IP change.

I still found the worst problem to be the lack of inventory management and universal ammo.

I was working in the game industry when Deus Ex first came out. I actually got a job offer at IW for what would turn out to be the sequel, that I turned down to stay with studio I was at. It sort of worked out as less than 9 months later I quit to go back to college, and they went bankrupt less then 6 weeks later.

The spacecraft in the foreground is “The Eternal Summer”, an orbital cryopod sanctuary for the filthy rich. They just arrived and are paying me for a refuel and restock of spare parts before hopping back to orbit to wait for a brighter tomorrow, frozen solid. What a nice thought…

You should check to see if it has any of the parts @BeachAV8R needs for the airplane he is building …oh wait…different thread. :grimacing:

I went to do some work, left the colony to do its thing…and came back to my factory outputs being miserably low! I looked into it…turns out I’ve got 22 “seniors” in my colony who think they can just rest on their laurels and no longer have to work! Sigh…need to get some fresh blood to Mars now. I swear…old people these days.

In other news - look at my, ahem, beautiful vast lake! My GHG plants have bumped up temps enough to get that evaporation going…we want some rain!
