That’s pretty subtle.

there is a strange shaped island there.

Reminds me when you yanks parked one of your carriers here in England. Flying over the top, I was quite in awe of it. I knew they were big… but ITS BIG !!!

More of a kraut person than a yank person myself.

They once sailed one of em into Rotterdam port, looked silly with all the people standing on the edge of the deck. I wonder why they do that.

When was that? Two of my friends were on Truman when she docked there in '03. That was when they drank Portsmouth dry.

That would be quite a feat. I know Portsmouth quite well. At one point, about 900 pubs in an area less than 5 miles square. Map:

There was one of the end of every street, and there are a lot of streets.

…except you’re still in a Navy town. I’ve been told it’s still the English equivalent of Norfolk. Anybody know if that’s accurate?

I worked near there in the 80’s for a bit, so could be different now. Portsmouth was a blend of three vibrant communities in close quarters, which caused a lot of drinking. (1) Navy, a huge base with lots of visiting fleets, lots of beer consumers, (2) a large University and local colleges, a lot of beer consumers and (3) local people in jobs supporting all those in (1) and (2), and you’d need to seriously drink a fair bit to survive that. Historically it has always been a party/fighting/drinking town from about 1496.

I personally remember lots of MP’s, flashing blue lights and the smell of stale beer. Apparently students with short hair would occasionally wake up in a Navy base brig, as the local Friday night justice system was working on the basis that the students had the longer hair, so scoop up the rest in the van and sort it out in the morning… :haircut:

Nice little comparison to ED’s radar for the Hornet.

Exactly, but very subtle in doing so.

After discussing it at length with @Fridge and @Andrew116, we noticed that model looks familiar. It’s the old CVN-77 model from Tomcatz. The LNS guy who took the picture is the F-14 AFM lead and was using it for testing.

Valid reason is valid.

< rivet counting > that island layout looks all wrong for CVN-77. Looks like it could be CVN-68 - 75.

Yiss. Also that little last bit about the Tomcat?
