HP Reverb G2

That’s what the man said…
The cable of the Rift S is 5m long.

Yeah, I read the whole thing. Must be a mistake. That’s like 15ft. That makes absolutely no sense. 4m is even too much.
BTW, I use a little strap to tie my cable to the chair frame behind my head. It keeps the cable from catching on things. The slack makes dogfighting much more pleasant.

The Index too…

To put this into perspective:
If your PC is behind a desk, you might need 2m to get into open space, then up to 2m to get up to your head, 1m spare.
That’s just enough.
Only if you sit down (like most of us here on Mudspike do because we are simmers) it might be too much. But for room scale it isn’t too much at all.

do you think that staying seated we can use this solution??

I think that’s for the backpack as the G2 is compatible with the G1 backpack.

I wouldn’t mind using a short cable at all, as long as it isn’t too short. Five meters will just be a coil of dustbunnies, cat hair and interference.

I agree, but it seems to have become somewhat of a standard.

Ok, I forgot the non simmers among us… so 5m ok, now I get it. For the simmers… @schurem got it right. Dust bunnies galore!

Not in my SimBox! I have a weekly vacuuming routine…
Oups!

LMAO

Yeah same here with the Rift S.
I wish the cable was a tad shorter for the way I use it.

The hype train is boarding! :station:

And the G2 Omnicept Edition will arrive early next year, with eye sensors and facial expression cameras, heart rate monitor, etc…

I would really like to know the price point for the Omnicept edition. If it isn’t horrendously more expensive then I would definitely consider canceling my G2 order and waiting a few months.

I have high hopes for the eye tracking thing. It could substantially improve performance on lower end systems if it works well.
As for the heart rate sensor: uhmmm…OK…I guess?

That many extra sensors… Sounds costly.
Besides, I doubt our favourite sims will support foveated rendering for some years. Especially if the tech is only available for a particular headset.

True that. However. It means the tech is being built. That’s a big step forward.

Yep! And that it’s becoming mainstream…
Pimax have said they will do eye trackers for their VR headsets too.
If they solve foveated rendering, and if it doesn’t require specialized graphic engine rewrites, it could be a big hit. But I doubt it will be available anytime soon. Could be wrong though… Especially if MSFS VR leads to empty Reverb G2 shelves.

As it most definitely will. Look what it has done to the flight sim peripherals bussiness. It’s great. Made Honeycomb into a Big Name almost overnight.
