That’s how I roll. It used to be the same when I bought something cool for astronomy… the worst being any fancy new telescope. On delivery day I’d either be off on day one of a two week trip (with the weather being perfect), or it would be cloudy for at least a week. LOL.
looking forward to your reviews guys… maybe I am getting older
Hey @BeachAV8R, I was about to accuse @PaulRix for sniping our flight sim purchases yet again, but this happened… and we have family visiting from out of town for the whole weekend
Awesome, mr. Murphy! High five!
Reverb G2 stuff and VR related…
Watched this:
REVERB G2 SOFTWARE UPDATE!
Seems it helps all WMR VR things. Here’s the Msft blurb:
Windows Mixed Reality Visual Quality Update
I only had time for a quick looksee. It does do something: The Windows Update (you can skip all the above and just check for the latest update) was small. DCS spent some time chewing on the bits for the next load up. I assume that somewhere in the chain/pipeline DCS detected a change in the underlying system and re-built all the shaders.
Here’s an image representing one aspect of the changes:
The image on the left is the Before. So, it may help with clarity overall.
“… we were able to apply some of these new techniques to existing products in-market, namely, the Samsung Odyssey+ and the original HP Reverb G1…” - YES!
There’s more on: Light Leakage, God Rays, etc.
As for visual results (I’m still on an Odyssey+): nothing yet. And it didn’t run slower, which is a nice. Had to run errands so am diving in to test more deeply now.
So, good news for G2 peeps and it would seem for all WMR-kind.
Carry on
it’s just a windows update right?
or do we need to do something extra??
Just a Windows update for me: went to “Update” and it was there, ready to be applied. Does require a restart.
I can tell a difference in my G1. If I had to describe it, I would say and improvement in the overall quality of the image and that the colors have a bit more saturation, which has never been the Reverb’s strong point. @jross.
Mine…is sooooo close…and, like Paul…I probably can’t use it this weekend if it arrives. FAA checkride (one with an actual Fed in the sim), so I gotta do some studying… Sigh.
For those following along with WMR update…
Overall
- Maybe a couple three FPS better overall
- A tad smoother. I judge this by looking out at my 3/9 O’Clock while motoring along low-ish altitude; that’s where I notice some ‘choppy-ness’ but it’s not as bad now, probably 1/2 as much? Lot of variables of course
- I can fly at night now! With my Odyssey +! I tried a few times but it was just too annoying. Don’t know what the ‘feature’ was called but any bright thing would, I dunno, ‘smear’ I guess is a word. Not bad at all now. Even did a CASE 3 trapping on the first go from marshal. Time will tell.
- Over all I’d say it was a teensy bit clearer, colors more defined? ‘Richer’?. Not as ‘smudged’ perhaps. If I didn’t know an update dropped I’d have just thought, “…something looks nicer…” but would’nt know what it was.
I noticed this as well when I accidentally spawned a night mission. Seems sharper and clearer. Good to have some collaborative agreement on this point.
”Don’t worry! It’s just like any other day at the office”
Yeah, right!
Interesting, perhaps I need to bring out my G1 again. The picture on the left is exactly how my G1 looked liked and it was bloody awful. After a couple of weeks I shelved it and went back to my trusty old Rift, which while being lower res, actually has a better quality picture than this. It seems they now have finally fixed this by software.
There’s one sentence from the host that precedes this answer. The sentence is:
We are happy to welcom you here, Sir!"
I’m pressing Continue, but nothing happens!!!
Is he wearing shorts?
Skort…
