The way I see it … if it survives the UPS shipping process, it’s good to go. Best QC and testing evah!
I used to pack things and chuck them into the air as high as I could them off the roof of our building to see if it would survive the fall. Everything I packed and tested that way made it to the customer undamaged. Packaging was more expensive but the lack of shipping complaints and returns made the extra cost worthwhile.

I can wait, patiently?
Oh no, not this again…
@BeachAV8R is a pilot. Mind tricks don’t work on him. Only money…
Besides, he’s got NVRA, (New VR Anxiety).
It should’ve been me who got that G2 first… Not him. I wrote every boss at NASA, every senator I knew… No, wait. I’ve been watching too much ”The Right Stuff”.
I’m a pilot too. Minds tricks DEFINITELY work on me. Maybe it’s only professional pilots that are immune
Friend of mine told me story. At some wedding party teen girl at the table stated ‘this last cake is mine, I already licked it’. He took the cake, started to eat it and replied ‘you dont know yet, what life is’
Well, it’s more a case of money being the better option if you want a professional pilot to obey.
Hero!
My wife…who has worked with airline pilots for over 30 years now…and is the bridge between the union and the airline…has a favorite joke: “Do you know how copper wire is made? Give two pilots a penny.”
So… What’s the joke…?
Brilliant. Fliss and I fell about laughing
FAA observed checkride passed.
Opening the G2 package and having PF Changs and some Malbec in celebration…
Within the box is…another…gorgeous…stunning…box…who knew that HP would be such masters of the matryoshka? I might take a day or two to savor this newly revealed box. There is a lot to like about it. It will be hard to resist cracking it open to see if there are more boxes within though. I’ll resist the temptation though…
Oh…
You got one of those boxes…
You see, while you were putting your career on the line, I have been binging unboxing videos on youtube.
I’ve seen that box before.
I give it a 50/50 chance that you got a refurbished G1.
Let us know when you have savoured the box and opened it.
Wouldn’t get my hopes up though.
Good luck!
Alrighty. First impressions:
Sweet spot - definitely a bit larger, but I wouldn’t say overwhelmingly so. As a result, having already experienced the 2160 x 2160 display on the G1…it probably isn’t as impactful as perhaps someone coming from a lower resolution headset. But, the image is definitely better overall given the slightly wider sweet spot.
I’m also being super careful with mine because I do have some light scratches in my G1 lenses from my glasses hitting the lenses. I’ve since moved to a smaller pair of glasses, so I don’t think that will be a problem with the G2, but I don’t want to take any chances. I’ll order custom inserts for the G2 as soon as I get an updated prescription and whenever WidmoVR or whoever starts making them.
Comfort - it feels a bit heavier than the G1, and not as comfortable. The G2 I had was the one with the leather type face mask and that feels a bit more comfy than the cloth type mask that is on the G2. I need to see if my headband that I moved from my O+ to my G1 will also fit my G2. I only played around for 30 minutes, but felt some pressure points on the back of my head that I wasn’t getting with the G1. The O+ with all the mods is still more comfortable than either the G1 or G2, but I think I just need to play around with the straps on the G2 to get it as comfortable as the G1 was.
Cabling is much improved. Yes, there is are a few more junctions with the power cord down on the floor, but for a seated gamer like myself it is no big deal.
The hand controllers are a HUGE improvement over the G1 controllers. They feel a bit more like the OG Rift controllers (and even look a bit more like them minus the halo). I hated the G1 controllers so much that I paired my O+ controllers to my G1 and I really liked that. BUT, the G2 controller gets rid of the touch sensitive “pad” in favor of just sticks and at least in VTOL VR it works way better for the tilt of the engine nacelles. Perhaps an odd observation is that the trigger when it hits the stop is a bit louder than the O+ controller. They feel solid and are more compact than the O+ controllers…which is great since I travel with mine.
No comments or observations on tracking yet as I haven’t had time to put it through its paces. My complaint with the G1 tracking was that when I’m looking right my left hand in VTOL VR is down by my side and loses tracking…I suspect the G2 won’t be much better in that regard since my ever diminishing man boobs (yay…under 200 lbs. today!)…or at least my torso has to block line of sight with a hand that is down near my legs. I’ll explore more on tracking over the next day or so.
Colors are more vibrant. Performance seems fine…as good as the G1. I went into Steam and adjusted the VR Resolution Per Eye to 50% resulting in 2228 x 2180…that seems to be the recommended value according to HP on Reddit. Aerofly 2 FS looks gorgeous and is speedy as can be.
Whew, had to look that one up…Mudspike is so educational sometimes…
Cool. I’m only reading this one. word. at. a. time
This is the sure sign you’re (me) getting old…when the absurdity of some [new] things screams out at you
Okay, okay, I did actualy watch one, once.
That’s scary. My “Infinitely Adjustable Hook & Loop” strap job is the only thing that allows me more than about 30 minutes with the O+.
Yes…to be fair though, I did mod my O+ with a really plush VR Cover faceplate that feels like a gel of some sort…very, very nice…and I bought that top strap mod thing too. I really liked the feel of the O+…it was so comfortable that it would often make me sleepy…haha…
