HP Reverb G2

I’m running mine fine on a Sabrenet 60w 10 port USB 3.0 powered hub. It has 3 smart powered ports and all of the ports are switchable. I really like this because I don’t have to unplug my HMD to remove power or reset it.

I had 2 issues when I first recieved my G2 but I since then uninstalled the headset plugged it back in the USB-C Port and reinstalled the headset and had no further issues since doing so…

It has been rock solid and I played Squadrons last night for 2 hours… Sorry to hear you guys are having issues…

Do not buy the silicon cover from VR Cover!

Look at this!
The top part of the silicon hangs down into your field of view…!

Ah…I did not notice this before - but can confirm it - it does the same thing with mine. Of course, now I’m not using it anyway since I bought the complete faceplate replacement.

I can imagine that it is the better solution.
How do you like it? Any different from the original, apart from the material?

That’s too bad!

It looks to me like that design would be a fogging nightmare; does it have any ventilation that isn’t apparent in the pictures?

The G2?
No. But It’s no worse than the Rift and Rift S, that I used prior to the G2. I have a USB fan directed at my head, when I use VR when it’s warm.

I see. The material looked like it would be less breathable than the Rift S that I have. I don’t understand why they don’t design these with ventilation in mind; I’m always fighting a little bit of fog if I have it too tight to my face.

A fan is a great idea!

I’ve given it some thought and I think extra ventilation holes means increased light pollution and adding fans adds weight, complexity and noise.
And yeah, an external fan that moves the air around your VR headset is really all it takes. Doesn’t have to create a storm or anything. Just get the air to circulate a little.

I think fogging is to do with temperature differential, so as I leave my on/plugged in it seems to always work out ok as it’s warm already (not sure how the physics works, so guessing)? If it was a scuba mask I’d spit in it, but I don’t think that’s COVID friendly.

Well, yes. Warm air contains more humidity. When cooled by a cooler surface, such as a lens, it condensates. Just like the condensation on the outside of that ice cold beer can, on a hot and humid summer day… Or so I’ve heard.
You can either heat the lens or mix the humid air, surrounding your face, with cool and dry air.

Not every year… A good year, yes.

It’s funny . I’m hardly aware of the desk fan running until i open the canopy after a mission . Then i can feel it and - i swear - i can smell the salt air

OK I am really mad here… I am getting the dreaded 4-1 error and when I uninstalled the headset after unplugging it the Mixed Reality Portal is not recongnising my 3.0 USB Ports.

I have tried uninstallinbg the microsoft 3.0 drivers in device manager, I also tried to update the driver and also checked Windows update, I am all up too date…

Really frustrating and too add to that I tried contqacting support well it said to enter my Serial number and it states it is unable to verify my serial number try again later… OK I bought this direct from HP what gives and how come I can not just contact them without verifying my serial number…

From what I seen I am going to probally need to send this headset back… ughhh

The HP quality with their VR line of products has not been great. I’m hoping mine continues to work well until the next new and great thing…

Haven’t forgotten you asked these questions…I just gotta use it a bit more to really form an opinion and I haven’t had that chance the past few days. Will circle back to this in a few days at most…

Well I found the 1-800 number for HP sadly all the Reps where busy… I will try and call later they must be getting swamped with calls about the G2…

I have tried all the fixes I seen I am pretty sure something broke… I seen one video where the guy said the wire must of shorted out and a new cable fixed it…

So probally a bad cable design is causing this USB issue… I still dont see why the voltage is at 20v on the adapter tested with a Volt meter.

VR Cover support agreed that the silicone cover should not sag like this and refunded the cost. Very nice customer support.
Now I’m just waiting, and waiting…for @BeachAV8R’s verdict about the facial interface, to see if I should get that instead.
