HP Reverb G2

Well the good news is HP is sending out the cable but the bad news is it is on Backorder up too 2 months. :frowning:

Well it was fun while it lasted and the wait begins. besides I dont want to send it back as I already purchased the VR Lenses from Widmo plus to return shipping plus loose the lenses I would be out near 175 USD… So I will just wait until I get the new cables…

I like it - it feels very much like the O+ face mask - which most will remember I raved about being the most comfy of the headsets I’ve owned. The foam feels awesome…very comfortable, and a lot more natural feeling than the silicone over the default. It is really squishy…like the O+ one was. Keep in mind I’m also using it with the top headband thing:

So my Reverb G2 has become as cozy as the modded O+.

This was my modded O+ by the way:

If I press against the headset to compress the foam even more, I can probably get another 2° of field-of-view…or more accurately, get another 2° of FOV back because I do think the plushness of the VR Cover probably robs you of a slight bit - but it is worth it for the comfort.

I get zero light leak.

So yeah…I like it…

Did it come with two foam pads?
The ordering page mentions a thin and a thick pad…

So, that pad fits the Reverb 2 as well? At first glance it appears that the pad runs port/starboard while the Reverb runs fore/aft.

:see_no_evil: Until you mentioned it - I had no idea that one was thicker than the other one - I just assumed the second one was a backup/replacement. But yes, the one I had in there was the thicker of the two - probably 17mm - the thinner one is about 10mm (just by eyeballing the ruler). I just put the thinner one in to test it and it feels good too - and my eyelashes are still not hitting the WidmoVR lenses…so that is good…

This photo is not very illustrative…ignore the measurements because they are not taken straight on edge…

Yes…the pad will mount to the G2 across the top. I have it running under the integral fore/aft strap of the G2 - the side pieces of the strap wrap around the headphone just fine…

Nice! I have a head like a Sleestak

so headbands make me feel like Uncle Fester

I think you should get it surgically mounted…definitely a conversation piece…!

I’m pretty sure no one wants to have a conversation with me now.

That thing would seal the deal! :joy:

I made a Headphone Speaker mod. the Earmuffs was a mod for the Odyssey + I found on Ebay, I could not find G2 mod so I just purchased the odyssey earmuffs thinking it would work which it did but not an easy task to wrap the wire I used to secure the earmuffs to the speaker…

I did find a Real G2 headphone mod that had a printed 3D part on Thingiverse plus they used the Beats Solo 3 Headphone replacement earmuff… I am thinking of getting the Beats earmuff from ebay and trying those out as they like like it would have a better fit… the Odyssey Ones did not have much material to wrap the wire around the headset.

I think the Solo3 earmuffs will have more material on it and make it easier to attach… The mod on Thingiverse had a 3d printed part which looked to make the headphones to tight on the ear.

I think with just the Solo3 Beats muffs and you might be able to just use a rubber band or similar… I used picture frame wire to wrap the headphone earmuff to the speaker on the G2…

I did take them off to make the mod as it was easier to just hold the little speaker and wrap the wire. I had 2nd party help wrap the wire why I held the earmuff in place… here is a picture of the mod not perfect but the purpose of the earmuff is too enclose you ear for better bass response and better sound isolating your ears from outside noise a bit…

HP should have made their speakers in a similar fashion as that is how a headphone works…

here are the pics of my mod which I think I might get the solo3 earmuffs and try those but these work great untested but fit well…

@BeachAV8R I got one too, after you mentioned it. Been using the thin cushion. I like the depth, it’s plenty comfortable, but I think I like the material of the original better, though the original is much more “firm”. Not sure yet which I’ll keep on (probably the aftermarket pad).

I also bought one of the silicon covers to throw on if I’ve got company. In todays environment, it’ll probably make people feel more comfortable about sharing a face-hugger.

New G2 firmware.
Who wants to go first…?

As long as mine works OK as is, I am in no need to touch it :vr:

Don’t have one :frowning:

No friend with a relatively up to date PC that you could try connecting it to, just to do the firmware update?

The release note mentions it’s a fix for high volume audio causing a cut-out in the headphones/displays so if not experiencing that then not sure if it’ll would help with anything else.

  • Resolves a potential issue where displays may flicker or go black when playing certain titles at high volume levels.

Yes, but if HP do their updates like ED, then you never know…
I have some occasional flickering, and crackling noise in the speakers. I thought the flickering was associated with motion smoothing kicking in and out, but I thought I’d try this update…
