HP Reverb G2

Hm. Well, he probably looked a lot closer than I did. But to me it looks like I got better visuals and more FPS.
Would be fun if I could have someone do the settings for me, and do a blind test…

Have you made any comparisons to the in-game FPS readout against fpsVR? Do they match? Again…asking when I should just go check myself. I’m soooo lazy…

Yes. Well mine do.

Mine was a few frames slower, but the image quality was better, IMHO. I need to do some more testing with different combinations of the 2 settings. I do like how Jabbers discussed the differences in the granularity of both sliders.

I had to watch it first, and this is one of his better videos. Actual math/logic and use of professional tools. Less feelings. My male brain is satisfied.

TL;DR: Basically the original calculation is flawed. So the difference in FPS comes from a difference in resolution.

Ok. What headset does he use?

I used to have DCS PD 1.0 and Steam VR resolution at 50%, which is about the native resolution for the G2. Increasing Steam VR res to a 100% includes some super sampling to correct distortion, I’m told.
Is it the fact that that PD 0.5 will allow me to increase Steam VR above 100% that sort of reduces distortion, but keeps the over all resolution down…?
Because I’m seeing a picture that is at least as good as PD 1 & 50%… And it’s more fluid.

No, I haven’t.

Your use case makes sense to me. Reduce max resolution to get more FPS. At some point the GPU will run out of memory bandwidth or fill rate.

I picked up my VR Optician lenses for my G2 Thursday and did a little testing with them saturday in Epic Roller Coasters and the WMR and SVR houses.

The view is clearer and it is way more comfy, than with my glasses.

I picked VR Optician as far as I know, the consumer protection is better in Germany than in Poland, with more strict rules.

I am expecting to upgrade my PC in the next 3 or 4 weeks or so, so I will probably hold of on any optimisation attempts until then.

There is also my Diablo II LOD rediscover and the 3D Printer to work on first.

Happy Simming.

Hi Dan, would you say the quality of the build is better over all then the Poland lenses?

Did anyone notice a big drop in performance with SteamVR that updated today? I lost about 20 fps in DCS.

Edit: I resolved this by reverting to the VR preset in DCS. I had been running more or less the @fearlessfrog DCS settings, so something in the latest SteamVR beta didn’t agree with those settings.

Ran it to look…SteamVR Beta made a small (1-liner note) update; ran same as a day or so ago performance-wise. Note I’m not on a G2 but an O+.

I’ll give it a go, as I’ve did that VR mod test, so have a good frame of reference (heh) to see if it’s gone bad on this one.

EDIT: All seems the same to me after the SteamVR update 1.17.3, so maybe something else Dan? About 13ms Hornet freeflight starting from Batumi, and about 16ms on the Syria Hornet freeflight (as more stuff).

My settings, with PD 0.5 and SteamVR 500% on a Reverb G1 (i9@5GHz, 2080OC, 32GB) and the Nvidia ‘classic’ 457.30 driver.

Must have been. I’ve saved your settings as a preset, so should be easy to test tonight.

Edit: Sorry for shooting up a flare guys. It was the only change in my otherwise stable VR environment. I switched back to the Fearless/Lukas settings and all is well.

I cannot say as I don’t have the Polish lenses.

Things drawing me towards VR Optician are the use of Zeiss lenses and the fact that one of the guys behind it is running his own Optician and hearing aid shop.

The company behind VR Optician is TwoSight GMBH and according to this site

Arne Engler is running this shop:

https://www.augenoptik-engler.de/

Appart from the customer protection, what made me hold off on the Widmovr’s is that some users have experienced delamination of the 3D Printed frames.

I cannot remember where I found those, but it was either comments to videos, on forums or on reddit.

In this review he is afraid of causing that kind of damage if not handling them carefully.

Happy Simming

TLDR
Is it worth the upgrade from my CV1 now I have my 3090 and is the software side of things easier to work with

A resounding YES from me.
The Oculus experience is more plug and play, but I must say that after a few hours of understanding how WMR works, I must say I like it just as much as Oculus.

Great thanks, I can get one in 48 hours but wanted to double check that the initial excitement was not just hype

It’s a big step up from the CV1. You will love it (once you get your head around WMR/SteamVR/OpenXR). :+1:
