HP Reverb G2

I love the speakers but wear an audio headset as well for the microphone.

Same here! Way better sound than the Rift.

I personally find the mic very good as well, but I am definitely not an audiophile, so I could be wrong on that count.

Not trying to convince you not to wear a headset for the microphone but the HP mic is pretty dang good too! …

I also play Population One with the standalone Oculus Quest 2 and never get any complaints about people not hearing me.

The problem is going out of vr and vice versa.

Oh ok. If you’re having trouble quickly switching your audio inputs and outputs, I’ve been using “SoundSwitch” for years. It’s donationware and I’m finally thinking of donating some $ to the dev …

Some say the true test of a piece of equipment is if you seldom think about it. Such is the audio in the G2. It sounds good and i dont worry about it. Plus, i can hear “Dinner is Ready!” That is always a plus lol

Exactly! I have a preference for ‘open cupped’ design in my headsets and the G2 doesn’t get any more ‘open cupped’ if you ask me.
Prevents me from yelling (well, depends on who you ask I guess) and can still hear the family calling if there is something that needs my attention.

Been using the new cable for a while now, can’t say I see better tracking or more consistent performance, but I didn’t encounter any black screens, loss of focus or crashes anymore either.

Just ordered a fresh cable for my G2 while it’s still in warranty. Yay hp support!

Those newer cables are backordered, I am still waiting for mine…

Support boy told me I could expect it this very week lol!

well let me know if you get it. they told me it will be sent out via 2 day… over 2 weeks ago…

I got my replacement in a coupme of days. However, support ordered the original cable. I calle back and pointed this out. The support guy said that it’s the only cable they can order, but the distribution warehouse will get a correction when they try to pack and send it, and they will get the new cable.
So, there is a possibility that support only see the old cable inventory…

Eh, my guy saw in his system that I had received theold cable back in February when my first one broke. I’m fairly confident I’ll be getting the v2 cable. I’ll store the v1 in case I need it inthe future.

Yes, you are.
The point that I was trying to make was that HP support could only order the old cable, but that was changed to the new cable, on the warehouse level.
That’s why I guess that the support guy may have seen the stock of old cables, in the system.

They said I had to return mine, or pay for the new cable. HP sent a prepaid return slip. Just call UPS and they’ll come pick it up. When I called, they said they didn’t have a pickup service in my area and I would have to send it in the mail. I called HP again and they asked me to dispose of the cable in an environmentally friendly way…

After nearly a year of trouble-free use, and Steam reports something like 4,400 hrs in SteamVR :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: , my G2 is developing a crackle in the right headphone. Similar to a scratchy volume knob on an old stereo receiver. We used to use pot cleaner on those if memory serves. Anywho, does anyone remember what the warranty period is for these things? Looks like I ordered 29 May 20, but it didn’t ship until 11 Nov 20. I’m imagining with all of the supply chain issues, that turn-around will be lengthy.

Go ahead and feed your serial number to the hp.com site. See if its under warranty. If so, getthem to send a new cable lol. You may want to reseat the little speaker, sounds like it has a bad connection. Unscrew, remove, clean and putit back, see if that helps.

Yeah that’s what I was told as well.

Thanks. Sometimes it’s hard to see the forest for the trees. Will give it a shot.

I had that issue with the G1 and fixed it by tightening the screw.

I got it again with the G2. Reseating did not help but swapping sides did.

I am still too lazy to order the new cable. I probably should…

So, a quick search came up empty (this thread is getting long) but, how do I tell what cable version I have? My unit is about 6 months old; strapped it down immediately; no issues so far, knock on wood.

There’s S/N tag on the cable, just outboard of the connector but, alas, no joy when entering that number on their site. It does say “Rev A” if that means anything. Still looking…

For the future:

So, one answer - how to ID the cable version - came from this:

Explicitly ask for:

Part Number: M52188-001 <<<< — THIS is what you’re looking for on the ‘box’ inline on the cable. As in: SPS: xxxxxxx

Part Description: SPS-CA ACTIVE 6M BLACK /W SWITCH

Photo of both cables (larger one being the newer revision of cable)

Oh, I have the latest one.
