Thank you @schurem. I unscrewed the earpiece, wiped the contact surfaces with a microfiber cloth, reassembled, tested, and we are good to go.
Huh. I received and plugged in the new cable. Switch box is quite a bit larger than the old one. Cable feels lighter too. I put a loop in it over my left ear before fastening it to the frame. The power switch is tiny and it appears it only works on a long press.
I am glad it only works on long-press. The thing lies on the ground next to my case and the button is prone to accidental short presses there.
Just recieved notice my cable has shipped… hopefully I will be done with these 7-14 errors…
Lucky! Canada seems to be lagging for these new cables. Ordered mine over a month ago. Still no word.
Finally, shitty performance is now smooth. And there was one setting to rule them all
Force DX 11 mode in WMR settings → no more stutter and so smooth. Before i find that setting its was stuttering mess no mater how low rez or settings.
Reverb 2 is great but all this software layers etc… is bit pain in butt. Oculus was so easy, so was vive etc… But WMR and its software is…ymmmm… well… different

-Edit- happy simmer now
ummm where can I find this magical setting you are talking about??
→ you need wmr controller , hit menu → wmr settings down left → dadaa
-Edit- i have AMD GPU , so it may or may not needed for Nvidia
Thanks for that. Seems Force DX-11 on mine was already set - I’ve no idea how/why.
For those coming here in the future - who can’t find that menu/tab:
If, like me, you don’t use controllers and turn all [seemingly] non-essential things off, you have to turn on the appropriate bits in SteamVR “Dashboard” to get the menu’s to show up; otherwise all I have is a blue box that interfaces with Windows (the Window button on the controllers) and doesn’t really do much; the other button does nothing.
After 10 minutes and several combo’s I just turned on all “Dashboard” options. Likely it was the “Show Settings Tab” that got me where I wanted to be. But, again, Force DX-11 was already on.
I was hoping is was off, darn it.
Again, good info provided here and thanks for the heads-up.
DUDE, thanks so much!
I’ve always heard about people turning off reprojection in steam, but mine never had that option, because I didn’t know about that menu! I never use controllers either.
Also, I’d never heard about forcing dx11.
Doing both of those made my game so much smoother it’s incredible! I sat and played object heavy missions for 3 hours, turning stuff like shadows back on and trees up because I can afford to now (3080 but 7700k, so CPU bound). Thanks for spelling it out for us dummies, you’re awesome!
Well I received the new cable and hooked it up and it did not work… I kept getting the dreaded 7-14 error?
I was thinking should I unhook the G2 then uninstall and reinstall with the new cable hooked up or should it just work…
For me it just worked. Is the dot on the plug no longer visible?
The cable is simply hardware, shouldn’t need to reinstall anything. I had some trouble getting the new one to lock in; had to wiggle it (DON’T Push too hard) to get it to slide all the way in, once it was lined up it snapped right in with a tactile click. Make sure power is unplugged.
Do you have PCI-E usb-C card already ?
It was only way to get reverb 2g to work with my PC
That’s dissapointing @The_Nephilim .
The error does seem related to USB power or cable connection, however.
If you do not already own the StarTech PCIe USB card, try to get one. Its known to power VR well.
Also, perhaps obsolete, make sure the plug into the headset is seated correctly (it is overlooked my many still) and to prevent it from being pulled loose, I’ve created some ‘play’ in the cable alongside the headset and clamped the wire with two tie-wraps. See picture.
Hope you get it fixed.
This may or not be helpful, but I also discovered if you are not using the USB-C port, you have to be sure it is in a USB 3.0 or later. I have a couple USB 3.2 ports on my board and case, and those are the only ports that deliver without issues… at least in my experience.
Luck,
Well I have a usb c port built into the motherboard I was using. I have a startech PCI-e USB but it is 3.0 should I get the pcie-usb C type??
I am pretty sure the cable was seated into the headset properly but I can give it another try…
I can’t believe, even with the new cable, that it seems to want more power!
I’m running the old cable on a good POWERED USB hub plugged into my best USB 3.2 motherboard port. Not sure if 3.2 makes a difference. I do know that I’ve gotten 3.2 Gbps over the hub port … that’s DANG fast.
OK I think the issue I had with the new cable was I don’t think it was plugged in correctly to the headset… I checked the dot this time and I could not see it before it was like half and half…
So this time it is in there good and tight hopefully that is all it was… we shall see. thnx guys.
Guys, I just want to say it again:
THANK YOU for informing me about turning on “Force dx11” and reprojection settings (disabled) in Steam WMR. I’d never seen those settings before, and adjusting them has given me the smoothest, clearest experience in DCS VR I’ve ever had!
For the first time, I’ve been able to turn things like mirrors, shadows (flat), heat blur, and even MSAA 2X on and still have smooth gameplay with no stuttering. Amazing!
I had no idea what I was missing.
For the record, I’m using OpenVR FSR (0.77, Steam SS 130%, DCS PD 1.0) as well. No other shaders mods or anything. Running a 3080 and a 7700K.
'Beings we haven’t seen him in an hour now, I think it worked!
