HP Reverb G2

Did you change the DCS setting for IPD?

Nope, DCS ipd is at 1.0 and steamvr is 80%.

Not the PD (Pixel Density). The Force IPD setting. I think it’s just a scale factor, but if it alters the stereo distance between the view outputs, maybe it can cause cross eye too…?

Sorry I’m mixing up my IPD’s and PD’s…

Here’s my settings from options.lua

[“custom_IPD”] = 63.5,
[“custom_IPD_enable”] = true,
[“pixel_density”] = 1

I’m going to try setting custom_IPD_enable to false and see if that helps.

THANK YOU… The IPD enabled appears to have been the problem. It was probably conflicting with hardware ipd setting on my reverb.

Hey will2360, I think that you’ve described perfectly what most of us are experiencing with SteamVR and DCS. The lack of stability. Judging by the different approaches that we seem to be taking, it often feels more art than science.

In my mind, you should be able to set both SteamVR and DCS to default VR settings and have a reasonably stable experience, those with system performance more or less than average adjusting graphic settings accordingly.

But that’s not the case. If I leave any type of motion smoothing enabled, I usually get the blue screen of SteamVR death when I spawn in. If I do manage to launch into a cockpit, the image is not as good as without smoothing, and the fps is about the same. Not to mention the challenges of sorting the best combination of GPU firmware and SteamVR software versions.

With the SteamVR game output to something like OBS neutered and the DCS playback system broken, capturing media while in VR is another of life’s great mysteries. Oculus/Meta users seem to be fine in this regard.

Still, I fly in VR most of the time. The experience is too immersive to let the hoop jumping get in the way.

When My G2 doesn’t quite know where it is in space, it tends to not do 6DOF. Some vigorous head movement helps. Up, down forward, backward, side to side, tilts. After a bit it recognizes the room and is ok to 6DOF again. I do need to recenter at that point.

When it takes too long for the headset to figure out where it is, I exit DCS and SteamVR and do the looking around thing in WMR Cliff House. Although I haven’t had to do that in a while

The better face thing looks good (although I do something similar with a VR cover soft mask anyway), I think most of us have the new switchy cable, and the improved tracking is through a camera upgrade. I have the next-day support thing, so might wait till the old ones are out of the system and then have a mysterious issue with my current one. The new face gasket is going to be purchasable for existing users apparently, but it’ll be a bit till that turns up in the HP store.

This is sort of the Reverb G2.1.

I just got to try one 15 mins ago at a friend’s house. The new faceplate is nice, but not something that I’m going to lose sleep over. What’s interesting is that I set the Velcro straps like I do on mine, and it was too loose, indicating that that it does sits closer to your face. TBH, I was working through getting OpenXR, the Windows VR portal, Windows MR for SteamVR, and MSFS all setup on Win11. The Win11 interface was different enough that I had to dig a little bit for settings, but it all came out good. I’ll head back over there ASAP and pay more attention to the face plate.

The better tracking is meant to be in the vertical, about +15° up/down. If you try it it would be interesting if you can tell a difference with the hand controllers. I don’t often stand up in VR, so it’s not something I am super keen to get.

How do I get the new cable? I haven’t had any issues with USB errors but I’m not a heavy VR user either. I got my G2 back in January 2021. Do I even need the new cable?

I also using the VR Cover and prefer that to the one that comes with it.

If your cable doesn’t have a (very small) on/off switch then it’s the old v1 one. The new one has the switch and an in-built USB hub, to help with AMD motherboard incompatibilities and signal clarity.

So far HP has been sending them to anyone that asks, although some regions are doing them for only people with issues. In the support chat you might want to mention that you get ‘7-14 error code’ in WMR if they ask. Some more info and regional contact info in here:

If the person you speak to at HP is completely confused then tell them to look for ‘new 6m cable (M52188-001)’.

Just a follow up on this … I haven’t heard a word from HP about returning the old cable and no extra charges on my credit card so it’s still sitting on my shelf and “mum’s the word”.

Another thing worth noting … I have large hands so I bought some grips for my Oculus CV1 years ago on Amazon for cheap … I think they were called “AMVR Grips” or something. Anyway, I don’t wear the straps so I cut all that crap off and they’ve been great for my Oculus CV1, Quest 2 AND HP G2!!! … the right controller on the left has the grip

Works especially great with the HP G2 motion controllers because HP doesn’t know how to build good stuff  and the battery cover felt loose otherwise. Perfect fit.

They stopped asking me to return mine when I told them that UPS won’t pick it up
But it’s not like I need the old cable for anything…

I don’t wear mine either, however I found because I either way camo combat trousers or just cargo pants every day, if I loop one around the button on the leg pouch it’s in easy “why am I sat too high I need to recentre” reach.

Bonus points for forgetting its there and knocking my drink over with it when I get up

It’s a good backup in case your dog or cat chews on your new cable or your wife runs over it with the lawnmower.

Just had a chat with HP about the cable. Email tonight saying new one was dispatched and would arrive on Friday. Now why did DCS stop ‘seeing’ my Virpil stick mid flight in a Huey? :frowning:
